Candidates Chess Tournament 2014 – Pairings

FIDE has announced round by round pairings for the Candidates Chess Tournament 2014 which is starting on 13th March in Khanty Mansiysk, Russia.

European School Chess Championships 2014

The European Chess Union (E.C.U), the International School Chess Union (I.S.C.U.) and the Olympic Sports Academy of Thessaloniki have the honour of inviting all National Chess Federations of the European Chess Union and eligible players to the European School Chess Championships 2014 organised in Kavala, Greece from 16 June (arrivals) to 27 June (departures).

Friendly match between France and Germany

European Team Champions in 2011 and European Team Vice-Champions in 2013, Germany and France, will play a friendly match some time during 2014 to mark the 51st anniversary of the Élysée Treaty.

Bronstein Memorial LIVE!

The Belarus Chess Federation is holding an International Open Tournament from 11th to 19th February to mark the 90th anniversary of David Bronstein’s birth.

The former World Championship challenger, who nearly dethroned Mikhail Botvinnik in 1951, was born in 1924 in Ukraine and passed away in 2006 in Minsk.

Candidates Chess Tournament 2014

The Candidates Chess Tournament 2014 to determine the challenger for the FIDE World Chess Championship Match will take place from 11th March to 1st April in Khanty Mansiysk, Russia.

Eight players participate in the Candidates Tournament and the winner qualifies for the World Chess Championship Match.

Olga Girya tops the Russian Women’s Premier Cup

WGM Olga Girya took a clear first place at the Moscow Open 2014 Russian Women’s Premier Cup after winning the last two rounds to finish with a total of 7,5/9 points.

Seven players shared the second place half a point behind the winner.

The event was held from 1-9th February at the RSSU Moscow. 154 players from 15 countries competed.

GM Gawain Jones Wins Bunratty Masters

The Bunratty Weekender was held over on 7-9th February at the Bunratty Castle Hotel in Ireland.

The tournament was held over six rounds of Swiss system and in four sections: Masters, Challengers, Major and Minor.

English Grandmaster Gawain Jones convincingly won the Masters and the top prize of €1000 with 5,5/6 points, leaving the nearest followers a full point behind.

Vajda and Djukic share first place in Plovdiv

The 36th Bulgarian International Open Chess Championship – Georgi Tringov Memorial – was held from 2nd to 9th February at the Moscow Hall of Hotel Novotel in Plovdiv.

The tournament was played over nine rounds of Swiss system and for the prize fund of 10.000 EUR.
