Gymnasiade in Marrakech, Morocco

ISF, the International School Sport Federation, has organized the Gymnasiade since 1974 and in 2016 added chess to the list of sports included.

Morocco organizes the 17th Gymnasiade, the first to take place on the African continent.

The chess discipline includes two tournaments, one for boys and one for girls. In each case players must have been born in the years 2000-2001-2002.

Everaldo Matsuura is the winner in CXC Brazil Open

Brazil flagThe CXC Brazil Open was a 6-round Swiss tournament which took place from 23-25 February 2018 in Curibita.
108 players took part in the tournament.

Rui Gao is the winner in Cannes 2018

Cannes bay32nd International chess open Pierre & Vacances was held from 19 to 25 February in Cannes.
The open will was divided in 3 sections.
In the A tournament they were 82 players.
The winner is GM Rui Gao with 7 points out of 9 and better tie-break from the second GM Jinshi Bai.

Jennifer Rodriguez Perez is the winner in Paraguayan Women’s Championship 2018

Paraguay flagThe Paraguayan Women’s Championship was a 7-round Swiss tournament which took place from 23-26 February 2018 in Luque.
Two players were clearly above the others, WIM Jennifer Rodriguez Perez and WFM Gabriela Vargas. The made draw between each other and won all their games.

Khanim Balajayeva is the winner in Azerbaijan Women’s Championship

Baku Chess Palace 2The Azerbaijan Women’s Championship was a 9-round Swiss open which took place in ACF in Baku from 18-26 February.
The leader after 8 rounds Balajayeva made draw with white against Narmin Soyunlu,while WGM Zeinab Mamedjarova,who needed a win lost against Gunay Mammadzada.

11th Tal Memorial in Museum of Russian Impressionism

The 11th edition of the international tournament named after the 8th World Champion Mikhail Tal will be played in the Museum of Russian Impressionism (Moscow), one of the leading private museums in Russia.

The tournament is a part of the international programme implemented by Russian Chess Federation (RCF) together with the Charitable Foundation of Elena and Gennady Timchenko since 2012.

Western Class Championships 2018

The 25th Annual Western Class Championships will be held from March 2-4, 2018, at the Airtel Plaza Hotel, 7277 Valjean Ave, Van Nuys, California.

The event has 7 sections: Master, Expert, Class A, Class B, Class C, Class D and Class E. All sections have either 3-day (March 2-4) or 2-day (March 3-4) schedules to play in.

The tournament format is 5-round Swiss with the time control 40/100, SD/30, d10.

The event has a guaranteed $20,000 prize fund. Entry fees range from $123-$140.

FIDE Seminar for International Organizers in Kassel, Germany

The German Chess Federation in cooperation with FIDE and FIDE Events Commission is holding a seminar for the International Organizers from 22-24th June in Kassel, Germany.

Lecturer is IO Horst Metzing and the lectures will be in German Language.

Amin Tabatabaei and Vladislav Kovalev leading in Aeroflot Open 2018

Seven rounds of the International chess festival Aeroflot Open 2018 are played in Moscow. The leader of the main tournament Vladislav Kovalev (Belarus) made a draw against Igor Lysyj (Russia). It allowed Amin Tabatabaei (Iran) to catch up with him after beating Krishnan Sasikiran (India).

Kovalev and Tabatabaei have scored 5.5 points each. Vladislav Artemiev, Igor Lysyj (both from Russia), Tigran L. Petrosian, Gabriel Sargissian (both from Armenia), and Anton Korobov (Ukraine) are trailing by half a point.
