Paris Grand Chess Tour

The first leg of the 2016 Grand Chess Tour is set to take place from 9-12th June at La Maison de la Chimie in Paris, France.

Ten Grandmasters will compete in the round robin rapid on 9-10th June and double round robin blitz on 11-12th June.

The total prize fund is $150,000.

Belaya Ladya scholastic team event started in Dagomys

The final tournament of the traditional all-Russian scholastic chess team event Belaya Ladya (also known as White Rook) started in Dagomys. Founded in 1969, the tournament is the oldest scholastic sports competition in Russia. Since 2015, Belaya Ladya also welcomes teams from foreign countries.

In the 2016 final, apart from 332 young players from different regions of Russia, there are also children from Armenia, Belarus, China, Estonia, Israel, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Moldova, and Mongolia.

9th Mumbai Mayor’s Cup International Open

The 9th Mumbai Mayor’s Cup International Open GM Chess Tournament 2016 is taking place from 2-9th June at the Mount Litera School, Bandra Kurla Complex, in Mumbai, India.

The event organized by Venus Chess Academy consists of three sections: Category A for players rated above 2000, Category B for players rated under 2000, and Category C for players rated under 1600.

All sections will be completed over 10 rounds of Swiss system. More than 700 players participate.

Antoaneta Stefanova grabs the lead at EIWCC 2016

The top seed of the European Individual Women’s Chess Championship 2016 GM Antoaneta Stefanova (BUL 2507) defeated the overnight leader WIM Yuliya Shvayger (ISR 2415) and took the pole position.

The ex World Champion emerged as leader before the rest day and will face IM Elisabeth Paehtz (GER 2489) in the 7th round.

Vladimir Putin greets Belaya Ladya participants

Russian President Vladimir Putin sent his greetings to everyone taking part in the Belaya Ladya national open chess tournament between school teams.

The message is published on the official site of the Russian President.

Vladimir Belous wins Chicago Chess Open 2016

The 25th Annual Chicago Open was held on May 26-30, 2016, at the Westin Chicago North Shore Hotel, 601 North Milwaukee Ave, Wheeling, Illinois.

The event had 8 sections: Open, Under 2300, Under 2100, Under 1900, Under 1700, Under 1500, Under 1300 and Under 1000.

The strongest Open section with 126 participants was completed over 9 rounds of Swiss system in 5-days.

Boris Grachev convincing in KiiT International Chess Festival

The 9th KiiT International Chess Festival 2016 took place from 23-30th May at the KiiT University in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India.

The tournament was organized by the All Odisha Chess Association and KiiT University, under the auspices of AICF.

Russian Grandmaster Boris Grachev stormed through the Elite Category to take the winner’s trophy with 8,5/10 points, leaving the nearest followers a full point behind. This section registered 201 participants. Full standings below.

Gata Kamsky clear first in Nezhmetdinov Cup Rapid

The 38th Nezhmetdinov Cup started with the rapid tournament that was held on 29-30th May at the Central Chess School in Kazan, Russia.

The tournament format was 9-round Swiss with the time control 15 min + 5 sec.

GM Gata Kamsky took a clear first place with 7,5 points in the field of 107 players.
