2016 FIDE Arbiters’ Commission Councilors’ Meeting

86th German Chess Championship LIVE!

The 86th German Chess Championship is going to take place at the Hermann-Neuberger sports school in Saarbrücken. It is going to feature some of the strongest German players including GM Daniel Friedman, GM Igor Khenkin, GM Alexander Donchenko, GM Vitali Kunin, GM René Stern, IM Rasmus Svane, IM Hagen Poetsch, GM Klaus Bischoff, Dmitrij Kollars, FM Johannes Carow, IM Christian Braun, IM Dr. Erik Zude, Alexander Hilverda, FM Martin Voigt, Vincenz Keymer, FM Wilfried Bode, IM Herbert Bastian, etc.

Antoaneta Stefanova visit to Nis delights the local chess fans

The chess fans from Nis, Serbia, were trembling with excitement as the 10th Women’s World Champion Antoaneta Stefanova visited the city on 28th November to promote the game among the young girls.

Her visit to Nis was organized and sponsored by the FIDE Commission for Women’s Chess (WOM).

GM Zhu Chen historic visit inspires Africa

Former Women’s World Champion Grandmaster Zhu Chen has just concluded a historic 17 days tour of four southern African countries.

The African Chess Confederation would like to thank Grandmaster Zhu Chen for her generosity and inspiration as she conducted numerous lectures and simultaneous exhibitions.

She also engaged in very informative discussions with various chess enthusiasts, players, administrators and Government officials throughout her tour.

Timor Leste Rating Tournament

The first rated tournament in Timor Leste was held from 13-15th November in the capital Dili.

Ten players participated in the round robin event. The tournament was a success with the six local players obtaining a rating and can be seen here https://ratings.fide.com/topfed.phtml?tops=0&ina=1&country=TLS.

The Indonesians were very supportive of coming over and enjoyed all of the games played.

Women’s Final of the Cup of Russia

The Russian Chess Federation has announced the lineup and pairings for the Women’s Final of the Cup of Russia, which will be held from 4-11th December in Khanty-Mansiysk.

According to the regulations, seven players qualified from the year-round tournament cycle, while the Organizing Committee has the right to nominate one player.

Evgeniya Ovod canceled her participation and is replaced by Anastasia Travkina. The OC nominee is Olga Girya.

Evgeny Tomashevsky completes the Tata Steel Masters field

Evgeny TomashevskyEvgeny Tomashevsky (28) from Russia will be the 14th grandmaster in the Tata Steel Masters, thus completing the top group of the Tata Steel Chess Tournament 2016.

8th Chennai Open International Grandmaster Chess Tournament

The 8th Chennai International Open Grandmaster Chess Tournament will take place from 18-25th January, 2015, at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai, India.

The event is organised by Tamil Nadu State Chess Association, under the guidance of All India Chess Federation.

The tournament will be conducted as per FIDE Laws of Chess and FIDE Swiss System with 10 rounds. Time Control is 90 Minutes each with 30 seconds increment from move no.1.
