After a very successful first edition of International Etna tournament in Nicolosi (CT), in December, a new event – 6th International Terre degli Elimi Tournament will be held this summer from Alessandro Monaco and his chess club “Amici della Scacchiera” (Chessboard Friends) on the west side of the Sicily island in Erice.

The FIDE Events Commission is organizing the 8th Internet based FIDE Seminar for International Organizers from 22-25 June 2015.

The 1st Sivakasi Chess Sparklers (SCS) FIDE Rated Tournament took place from 17-24th May, 2015, in Sivakasi, a town in Virudhunagar District in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

The event was a 9-round Swiss tournament with tempo of play 90′ + 30″.

The 3rd round of the European Individual Women’s Chess Championship 2015 brought about lots of surprises.

The first seed and Georgia #1 GM Nana Dzagnidze (2570) saved the game against GM Elina Danielian (ARM 2458) and managed to draw with a perpetual check. (Note: Dzagnidze is not paired for the remainder of the event)

We have been sadly informed that Portuguese International Master Joaquim Durão passed away today, at the age of 84.

Mr. Durão was the first Portuguese player to win the title of International Master in 1975 and represented the country in 10 Chess Olympiads. He was 13 times Portuguese Chess Champion and President of the Portuguese Federation of Chess for nearly 20 years (1968-1973, 1988 -1997 and 2005-2007).

He was also a member of the Executive Committee of FIDE for 14 years (1982-1996) and Vice-President in the last two years in office.

A FIDE Arbiters’ Seminar is going to be organized from 13-16 August 2015 in Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago, by the Trinidad & Tobago Chess Association and under the auspices of FIDE.

A FIDE Arbiters’ Seminar was organized from 21 to 24 April 2015 in Blantyre, Malawi, by the Malawi Chess Association, in cooperation with the Africa Chess Union and under the auspices of FIDE.

The venue was the Shire Highlands Hotel, in Blantyre. The Seminar was held concurrently with the FIDE Zone 4.3 Individual Chess Championships.
