Chess an official sport with the European Universities Sports Association

On Saturday 28th March, in Zagreb, Croatia the memorandum between the European Universities Sports Association (EUSA) and the European Chess Union (ECU) was signed.

The memorandum represents the inclusion of chess in the official sports program of the EUSA annual events. Chess is the 19th sport included in EUSA competitions.

Urii Eliseev and Daria Charochkina are new Moscow Champions

The final events of the Moscow Chess Championships for men and women were held from 14-22nd March at the Russian State Social University.

In the men section GM Urii Eliseev and IM David Paravyan shared the first place with 6,5/9 points each. Eliseev is declared winner on better tie-break.

The bronze medal was also decided by tie-break, with FM Dmitry Gordievsky edging GM Igor Naumkin.

Philadelphia Open 2015

The 9th Annual Philadelphia Open will be held over the Easter weekend from April 1-5, 2014, at the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown, 1201 Market Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The event has 7 sections: Open, Under 2200, Under 2000, Under 1800, Under 1600, Under 1400 and Under 1100.

FIDE Women’s World Championship – Round 5.1

The Semifinal matches of the FIDE Women’s World Chess Championship started in SCC Galactica (Sochi, Krasnaya Polyana) on March 29.

Four players continue competing for the chess crown: Mariya Muzychuk (Ukraine) faces Harika Dronavalli (India), and Pia Cramling (Sweden) meets Natalia Pogonina (Russia).

The event is a 7-round Swiss Team event with tempo of play 90′/ 40 + 30′ + 30″.

2015 Skak DM Tournament LIVE!

The 2015 edition of Skak DM Tournament is taking place from 28th March to 5th April in Svendborg, a town on the island of Funen in south-central Denmark.

88th Saint Petersburg Championship LIVE!

The 88th Saint Petersburg Individual Chess Championship is taking place from 21-31st March, 2015, in Saint Petersburg, the second largest city of Russia.

The event is separated into 12-player round-robin Men’s tournament and 83rd Saint Petersburg Women’s tournament in 9 rounds.

Top seeds are GM Evgeny Levin (2529) and WFM Dina Belenkaya (2259).

FIDE Women’s World Championship – Round 4 Tiebreaks

The tie-breaks of the FIDE Women’s World Chess Championship were played in SCC Galactica (Sochi, Krasnaya Polyana) on March 28. Six players returned to the venue to determine the semifinalists in rapid and blitz games.

Natalia Pogonina (Russia) once again used the Benko gambit against Zhao Xue (China). Yesterday this opening allowed her to come back after the first game loss, today it gave her a comfortable lead on tie-break.
