24th World Senior Chess Championships – Participants

The 2014 FIDE World Senior Chess Championships will be held from 23 October to 5 November in the conference center of “Mediterranean Village” in Katerini, Olympus Riviera, Greece

In accordance with the FIDE tournament rules, the Championship will be played in two categories: one for those who shall have reached the age of 50 (category SENIOR 50+), and one for those who shall have reached the age of 65 (category SENIOR 65+) by December 31st of the year in which the tournament will commence.

The last round of TCEC Season 7 – Stage 1b is in progress and five chess engines fight for the last qualifying spot.

Three rounds completed at EYCC 2014 in Batumi

The third round of the European Youth Chess Championship 2014 in Batumi was completed on Tuesday, and in some groups favorites already emerged.

In the oldest boys group three players have maximum score – Valerii Iovcov from Romania, IM Alexey Zenzera from Russia and FM Melih Yurtseven from Turkey. Yurtseven defeated the top seed GM Avital Boruchovsky from Israel in the 3rd round.

Al Ain Chess Classics 2014

The Al Ain Chess Club invites all FIDE rated players to participate in the 3rd Al Ain Chess Classics from 18-27th December 2014.

The 9-round Swiss tournament will take place at the Al Ain Rotana Hili Hotel.

Top prizes are 1st $11,000 / $8,500 / $6,000 / $4,500 / $3,000 / $2,000 etc (20 regular prizes)
There are also special prizes for women, juniors, regional players and elo sections.

Spice Cup Open 2014 LIVE!

The 2014 SPICE Cup Open is taking place on 21-26th October 2014 at the Crowne Plaza Clayton Hotel in Saint Louis, Missouri, USA.

The 9-round Swiss open is sponsored by Webster University and the Susan Polgar Foundation.

The event offers the prize fund of $13,000 guaranteed (up from $11,000 last year) and the possibility to earn FIDE title norms.

US Class Championship 2014

The 2014 US Class Championship is set to take place from 31st October to 2nd November at the Santa Clara Convention Center, 5001 Great America Pkwy, Santa Clara, CA 95054, USA.

The event consists of seven elo sections. The tournament format is 6-round Swiss with the time control G/120 +30.

The total prize fund is $20,000 based on 277 entries, with 73% of the prizes guaranteed.

FIDE Arbiters’ Seminar in Melbourne, Australia

Official FIDE logoA FIDE Arbiters’ Seminar is going to be organized from 28 February to 1 March 2015 in Melbourne, Australia, by the Australian Chess Federation and under the auspice of FIDE.

The venue of the Seminar will be the Melbourne Chess Club, 66 Leicester Street, Fitzroy, Victoria 3065.
