As the Chess Olympiad 2024 advances, we are going to see exciting battles on the top boards today. Besides matches like USA – Ukraine, Hungary – Italy, and India – Serbia, we are going to see a regional derby. In match 77 the team of Australia will meet their neighbors from New Zealand.

The “device” mentioned results to be a simple SIM card, but that is not allowed by the anti-cheating measures at the Chess Olympiad 2024. After careful consideration, the decision by the Olympiad members is to reverse the score of the game. The player will be allowed to continue and there will be no more consequences for the team.

The American Grandmaster Fabiano Caruana won his game against Ivan Cheparinov in a round 3 match of the Chess Olympiad 2024. This is the second win of Caruana in the tournament, after his victory against Jyngiao Tin. With that Caruana bags 5,0 ELO points and now has 2803 ELO.

Fabiano Caruana is now also the top American player in the world, having surpassed Nakamura by 1 point.

FIDE President Dvorkovich and the Chess Federation of Russia won their appeal against the Ethics commission.

The defending champion Leela Chess Zero is the sole leader of TCEC Swiss 7. Leela leads what is dubbed as the strongest chess event in history with 4,5/6, half of point ahead of nine competitors including rating leader Stockfish and the surprise of the season Ceres.

Gabriele Lombardo is the author of the chess engine Obsidian. It is one of the top engines in the world, currently competing for a medal position at the strongest ever computer chess event. This is impressive enough, but wait until you hear that Gabriele is 16 years old!!! This makes Gabriele the youngest author to participate in TCEC and “The Mozart of computer chess”

The World Chess Championship 2024 will be a 14 games match between the reigning world champion Ding Liren and the challenger Gukesh D to determine the World Chess Champion. The match is scheduled to take place between November 23 and December 15, 2024, with Singapore hosting the top event of the year.

Fabiano Caruana was happy about the win of USA at the Chess Olympiad, but he was surprised at the initial question of the interview. “Wesley was the least one who was struggling. Aronian was dead lost. Of course he is a very good defender and pulled off a miracle.” See the events of round 1 here

Vasyl Ivanchuk is a true legend. He does not remember at how many Chess Olympiads he has been, but says he enjoys each of them because he likes chess. We all remember how Ivachuk said I am waiting for the opportunity to actively come back to chess.
