ECU Annual Training Program

European Chess Union and ECU Trainers Commission, supported by FIDE Development Fund, announce the annual training program in period from November 2024 to April 2025.

The 4th Annual Training Program will feature two groups:

● Group A – Over 1900 Rating: Monday 18:00-20:05 CET (Juniors/Girls U16)
● Group B – Under 1900 rating: Tuesday 18:00-20:05 CET (Juniors/Girls U20)

The Chess Olympiad 2024 starts this September 10 in Budapest, Hungary. Part of the premier gathering of chess family members from around the world is the FIDE Congress – an official FIDE event combining the sessions of the General Assembly, FIDE Council, Zonal Council and FIDE Commissions. This is the place where the rules are coined and the general direction of chess may be changed.

Faustino Oro is the winner of Puigpelat Open 2024

The Argentinian prodigy Faustino Oro won the 2024 edition of Puigpelat Open. Faustino Oro scored 8,0/9, defeated along the way GM Soldovichenko and drew with GM Shirov for a total TPR of 2582.

Puigpelat Open 2024 was a rapid tournament with the participation of 163 players, 34 of them titled. Scroll down for the final standings.

Carlsen and Firouzja will play the World Rapid and Blitz 2024

Magnus Carlsen won the Speed Chess Championship after defeating convincingly Alireza Firouzja in the final with total score 23,5:7,5. In the different segments Carlsen won 6:3 (5 min + 1 sec), 8:2 (3 min + 1 sec), and 9,5:2,5 (1 min + 1 sec).

After the match Firouzja congratulated Carlsen on the win and said, “Congrats Magnus Carlsen. See you in New York.” to which the Norwegian agreed with a shake hand emoji.

Germany arrives in Budapest for Chess Olympiad 2024

Team Germany is 8th seeded in the open section of the Chess Olympiad. Board 1 is for Vincent Keymer and his teammates are Dmitrij Kollars, Matthias Bluebaum, Frederik Svane, Alexander Donchenko. The team is now on the way to Budapest and Frederik Svane shared a photo from the airport.

Chess Olympiad 2024 video commentary

GM Peter Svidler, GM Cristian Chirila, and WGM Anastasiya Karlovich are the FIDE commentators of the official broadcast of the 45th Chess Olympiad in Budapest.

Video commentary and live analysis by Svidler, Chirila, and Karlovich will be available starting round 1 of the Olympiad. The most viewed live coverage on Youtube by FIDE remains the World Championship ’22 game 6 with 391K views, while the replay of Carlsen-Dubov ’19 blitz has collected 4,9M.
