After 19-year-old American grandmaster Hans Niemann defeated Magnus Carlsen in the third round of the Sinquefield Cup 2022, the World Chess Champion decided to withdraw from the event.

The “ChessMood” International Open Chess Tournament kicked off today and takes place from September 29 to October 09 at the 5 star Tsaghkadzor Marriott Hotel in Armenia. The event is played in 9 rounds, swiss system, within two groups: A (2000+) and B (U2000), with the total prize fund of 10.250.000 Armenian drams (around 21.000 euros).  Time control for the A tournament is 90 minutes for the first 40 moves, plus 30 minutes till the end of the game with 30 seconds increment starting from move one.

The FIDE World Youth U-16 Chess Olympiad 2022 starts tomorrow in Nakhchivan, Azerbaijan, and will be played from 1-11 October in Nakhchivan Chess Center. 34 teams from 24 countries registered for the event which will be played in 9 rounds, Swiss system, with the time control of 90 minutes for the first 40 moves, followed by 30 minutes for the end of the games, with an increment of 30 seconds per move starting from move 1. Each match between teams will be played over 4 boards.

The fourth and the final leg of the $100.000 MPL Indian Chess Tour is taking place from 30 September – 3 October on chess24.com. 16 players compete in the all-play-all tournament for a qualification spot on the Meltwater Champions Chess Tour. Time control is 15 minutes + 10 second increment starting from move one. The winners and the top 4 by Tour standings, qualify for an 8-player knockout final.

The International round-robin tournament “Chess stars 2022” will be held from 29 September – 5 October in Moscow, Russia.

European Chess Union organizes European Cities & Towns Chess Championship 2022 which will take place on Sunday, 11 December 2022, in hybrid cities venues. The event will be played as a team competition in four categories: Open, Women, Seniors, and Youth (U12). The first edition of the new European Competition is supported by the ECU Development fund.
