A giant Chess set painted in the schoolyard #TweetOftheDay

After returning from the April holidays, the students of the Roger-Martin-du-Gard college in Belleme, west France, were able to take advantage of the gift offered by the socio-educational center – a giant chessboard painted on the floor of the school playground!

As part of the school project that aims to develop all students’ academic ambition, it was decided to make a giant chess set in the schoolyard, offering students to play outdoor chess during the breaks of school hours.

Nominations for Gligoric Trophy 2021

The award named after Serbian grandmaster Svetozar Gligoric was established by FIDE in 2012. FIDE General Assembly in 2012 has accepted the proposal of the Serbian Chess Federation to establish the award for fair play which would be named after the legendary Svetozar Gligoric who passed away earlier that year. The FIDE Presidental Board decided to reestablish the award setting the clear nomination process in 2019.

Leela Chess Zero wins the TCEC Subfinal

True to her Petrosian-esque reputation of a strong match player who does not often win tournaments, Leela Chess Zero defeated Komodo Dragon 54.5-45.5 (+24 -15 =61) to win the TCEC Subfinal. The match started out closely contested, with Leela scoring wins in games 1 & 5 before Komodo Dragon evened the score with its own wins in games 7 & 13.

TCEC Cup 10 starts today

The 10th jubilee edition of the TCEC Cup starts this Tuesday at 17.00 UTC (19:00 CEST, 13:00 ET). The best 32 engines are going to meet in a direct knockout event. Top seeded is the winner of TCEC Cup 9 and the TCEC League – Stockfish. The other participants are seeded by their final standing in the league season. Scroll down for the full list below.

2022 Ontario Open Chess Tournament

The Ontario Open Chess Tournament will take place from May 21 through May 23, at the beautiful West Toronto Masonic Temple.

The event features 4 tournaments: Crown, U2200, U1800 and U1400. Each tournament will be played in six rounds with a time control of 90 minutes + 30 seconds per move. The total prize fund of the event will be 8.500$.

Serbia wins gold at 15th European Chess Solving Championship 2022

The 15th European Chess Solving Championship 2022 took place on 14-15 May in Riga, Latvia. The event included five categories: Team, Individual, Juniors, Seniors and Women.

IM Andrei Obodchuk claims 21st IPCA World Chess Championship

Russian International Master Andrei Obodchuk won the 21st IPCA World Individual Chess Championship which concluded today in Ashdod, Israel. Obodchuk stroke back after a loss in the fifth round and scored 7.5/9 points to be the sole Winner of the event. Replay the games here

GM Carlos Daniel Albornoz Cabrera wins FIDE Zonal 2.3 Championship

The FIDE Zonal 2.3 Chess Championship 2022 took place from 25-30 March in the city of San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic. The event attracted 65 entries from 13 countries who played a 9 rounds swiss tournament.

Jamaican Chess Champions 2022 crowned in Kingston

The 2022 Open and Women National Chess Championships of Jamaica took place from 7-15 May in Kingston. 12 players in the Open section and 8 players in the Women’s section battled it out to clinch the title of National Champions.
