Grand Chess Tour Romania 2022

Leading off the 2022 Grand Chess Tour will be the Superbet Chess Classic held from 3-15 May in Bucharest, Romania. The series of the Grand Chess Tour 2022 events will follow with three rapid & blitz tournaments in Paris, Croatia, and Warsaw; and will conclude with the final classical event, the Sinquefield Cup. 

European School Chess Champions 2022 crowned

More than 200 kids from 22 European federations took part in the 2022 European School Chess Championship. The event was played from 20-30 April in “Rodos Palace” Hotel and Conference center, Rhodes, Greece.

France crowns Youth and Junior Chess Champions 2022

The French National Championships 2022 for youths and juniors concluded this week in Agen. With participation of more than 1500 kids the event was one of the most numerous chess events for youths in Europe.

TePe Sigeman & Co Chess Tournament 2022

The 27th edition of the TePe Sigeman Chess Tournament will be held from 3-9 May at the Malmo Live conference centre in Malmo, Sweden.

Eight players will play the seven rounds robin round tournament and the battlefield is led by GM Jorden van Foreest. The participants list:

Capablanca Memorial concluded in La Habana

Capablanca Memorial 2022 took place 19-28 April in La Habana, Cuba. This year the event featured strong round robin tournaments for men and women, as well as an open event. 

Jan-Krzysztof Duda wins Oslo Esports Cup

Polish star Jan-Krzysztof Duda pulled off a stunning late charge to clinch the $210,000 Oslo Esports Cup, the first Major of the Meltwater Champions Chess Tour season. This win will be a booster for Duda before the Candidates Chess 2022 of which we already know the pairings.

Fabiano Caruana is the winner of the American Chess Cup 2022

Fabiano Caruana is the winner of the American Chess Cup 2022. He defeated Levon Aronian in the final with a total score 1,5-0,5 after a decisive final game. With the victory Caruana also won $50 000 and an extra $10 000 bonus from the hefty prize fund.

Grand Chess Tour 2023 is part World Championship Cycle

The FIDE Council has approved a cooperation agreement with the Grand Chess Tour. By virtue of this agreement, the two top finishers of the 2023 and 2025 Series will qualify for the Candidates Chess 2024 and 2026 respectively. Now: Grand Chess Tour 2022

FIDE Candidates 2022 Tournament pairings

The FIDE Candidates Chess 2022 was announced in late December last year, with the dates, place and the sponsor. FIDE disclosed the event will take place in Madrid, June 16 – July 7 The Candidates Chess 2022 is an 8 player double round robin tournament with some of the world’s top Grandmasters. As the players are qualifying for the Candidates Tournament through the other FIDE events such as Grand Swiss, World Cup and Grand Prix, the participants of the event are usually known by the end of these tournaments.

English Chess Federation announces English Championships in May, the British Championship in August, and the relaunched ECF Grand Prix from July 2022 to June 2023, all supported by Chessable.
