The first phase of the El Salvador National ChampionshipSuperior category 2021 concluded today with the announcement of four semifinalists who continue the fight for the National Champion title on 15-16 May 2021.

23 players participated in the first open phase of the event, and the top 4 proceed to the second, knock-out phase: Sura Kalvin, FM Chavez Ricardo, Perez Salazar Armando and IM Arias Lemnys.

Chinese Open Chess Championship 2021 is ongoing in Xinghua Jiangsu, being played from May 7- May 15.

The event is a 11 rounds, robin-round system, with 11 Grandmasters and one International master. The top seeds are GM Wei Yi and GM Yu Yangyi, both rated above 2700.

After round 4 Xu Zhihang, Xu Xiangyu, and Lu Shanglei lead with 2,5/4.

Serbian Youth Chess Championship 2021 took place from 1st-9th May 2021 in Subotica.

Blitz, rapid and classical events gathered more than 180 players, playing within 6 age categories, boys and girls separately. Kids came back to the national championship after a one year pause, due to covid19 spread, fighting for qualifying spots for European and World Youth events.

GM Sergei Zhigalko is a chess legend in Belarus. He earned his IM title in 2004, his GM title in 2007, and while in pursuit of the norms won the U14 European Chess Championship (in 2003) and the U18 European Chess Championship (in 2006). GM Zhigalko is national champion for his country in 2009, 2012, and 2013 and represented Belarus as top board in Chess Olympiads 2010, 2012, and 2014.

Swedish WFM Anna Cramling played her last over-the-board chess event in January 2020, but now she showed us how close she is to continue with Over-the-board chess!

We certainly laughed with Anna’s good humor, but we really do hope to see her over the board soon!

Uganda World Cup Qualifiers Chess Tournament 2021 has started today in Kampala.

The best six Ugandan chess players compete in the event fighting for the World Cup 2021 ticket and the top seed is IM Ssegwanyi Arthur.

23 participants play a 9 rounds Swiss tournament in the Open section event, and the battlefield is led by GM Aleksandrov Aleksej, GM Fedorov Alexei and GM Stupak Kirill.

Season 21 of the Top Chess Engine Championship is starting this May 10th at 17:00 UTC. The event will start with the Qualification League, progress through L4, L3, L2 and L1 stages, and culminate with the Premier Division and the Superfinal.

The 78th Polish Individual Open and 73rd Polish Individual Women Chess Championships 2021 took place from April 24- May 8, 2021 in Bydgoszcz, Poland.
