ECU School Chess Teacher Training Course in Budapest

The 3rd ECU School Chess Teacher training course took place in PODIT Educational and Chess Center in Budapest, from 25th-26th November.

The course comprised two days of interactive presentations, group discussions and practical exercises with focus on the teaching aspects of chess.

Grandmaster Dana Reizniece-Ozola in bid for Eurogroup president

Latvian Finance Minister and leader of the national women’s chess team GM Dana Reizniece-Ozola applied for the position of Eurogroup president on Thursday, Reuters reported.

The president of the group is referred to as the “President of the eurozone”.

The 2017 FIDE World Junior and Girls Under 20 chess championship is over and on my way home I’m trying to recollect all the amazing things that happened in these two weeks.

Fideacademy, that kindly invited me as press officer, offered me the possibility to interview GM Vladimir Potkin, one of the coaches of the Russian delegation. I assure you it can be intimidating to have your first interview with such an important player.

European Fischer Random Cup 2018

The Icelandic Chess Federation and the European Chess Union are organizing the European Fischer Random Cup 2018 during the Reykjavik Chess Open.

The event will take place on Bobby Fischer’s birthday 9th March at Harpa in Reykjavik.

The tournament is open for everyone, but the highest ranked European player will be European Champion in Fischer Random chess.

Pro Blitz Cup (live games and video)

The fifth edition of the Pro-Biz Cup will take place on Thursday 30 November hosted by DeepMind at Google HQ in King’s Cross, London.

As part of the London Chess Classic, the Pro-Biz Cup brings leading business minds and the world’s leading Grandmasters together in a fun knock-out tournament to raise money for the UK charity, Chess in Schools and Communities (CSC).

London Chess Classic 2017 LIVE!

The ninth London Chess Classic 2017, which kicks off at the DeepMind Google HQ on 1 December 2017 and continues at the Olympia Conference Centre from 3 to 11 December 2017, is the concluding leg of the 2017 Grand Chess Tour and features a prize fund of $300,000. Heading a stellar field is the world champion Magnus Carlsen.

FIDE World Chess Championship Match 2018 in London

FIDE and World Chess announced today that the 2018 World Chess Championship Match will take place in London in November 2018.

The world’s most prestigious chess tournament is to be the climax of a season of high-profile activity to extend the sport’s appeal among global audiences – and make 2018 the Year of Chess in the UK.

Russian Championship Superfinals starting

The Superfinals of 70th Russian men’s championship and 67th Russian women’s championship will take place on December 2-15 at the State Museum of Political History of Russia (2-4, Kuybysheva St., Saint Petersburg).

American Continental Rapid & Blitz Chess Championship

The American Continental Rapid & Blitz Chess Championship for 2017 will take place in Medellin, Colombia, from 14th-16th December.

The event is organized by Colombian Chess Federation with support of the Chess League of Antioquia. The playing venue is Atanasio Girardot Sports Complex.

The Championship is open to all chess players who represent the Federation listed as the member of the American continent in FIDE, regardless on the title and FIDE rating.

FIDE Arbiters’ Seminar in Seoul, South Korea – Results

From 11 to 12 November 2017 a FIDE Arbiters’ Seminar was organized in Seoul, South Korea, by the Korean Chess Federation, in cooperation with the Asian Chess Federation and under auspices of FIDE.

The lecturer was IA Casto Abundo (PHI), FIDE Lecturer.

The venue of the Seminar was the University of Seoul. The lectures were in English language.
