“I’d love chess to be in Olympics” – Magnus Carlsen for NBC

The rise of esports has many wondering if it will soon apply for and receive Olympic inclusion.

Norwegian Magnus Carlsen, the world chess champion since 2013, believes his trade deserves priority.

“Chess has centuries, even millenia of history, which esports, obviously, they don’t,” Carlsen said for NBC Sports. “Personally, for me, it wouldn’t make sense [for esports to get in the Olympics first].”

European Corporate Chess Championship starting

Golden Cleopatra Open 2017

The Golden Cleopatra Open will be held in Cairo – Olympic Mondial hall at Eastern Company Club Center from 10th – 20th December 2017 under the patronage of Mr. Mohamed Osman Haroon, the Chairman of Eastern Company.

The tournament is open to all Fide-rated players with a standard rating of 1000 and above (as of 1st December 2017). Last day of registration & payment is Monday 4th December.

The tournament format is 10-round Swiss System accelerated Baku System with time control 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment per move for the whole game.

27th World Senior Chess Championship – Winners

Great fights, quick draws, medals winning or losing in last minute – during the last round of WSCC 2017 in Acqui Terme players and spectators saw the whole range of action.

Runavík Open 2017

Talvsamband Føroya is holding the 2017 Runavík Open from 20-26th November at the Løkshøll in Runavík in the Faroe Islands.

The tournament format is 9-round Swiss with 59 participants from 16 countries, including 12 Grandmasters. FIDE title norms are possible.

There is no entry fee and the top prizes are EUR 1300/800/600/450/300 etc. There are also special prizes for juniors and elo sections.

The Portuguese Chess Federation will hold the Portugal Open from 3-9th February 2018 at the Gym of Sports Complex of Casal Vistoso in Lisbon.

Pavlodar Open 2017

The 12th Pavlodar Open is taking place from 21-29th November at the Estaya St. 83 in Pavlodar, Kazakhstan.

The event is the 3rd stage of the Kazakhstan Cup and is organized by the Pavlodar Chess Federation and Kazakhstan Chess Federation.

The playing format is 10-round Swiss and the tournament will be valid for FIDE rating and norms.

GM Neuris Delgado winner of Duchamp International Open in Rio de Janeiro

The 1st Duchamp Open was organized by the Duchamp Internacional, FIDE Americas, Brazil Chess Confederation, FEXERJ and Clube de Xadrez Guanabara from 11-18th November at the South American Copacabana Hotel in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The Festival consisted of the Master Group, U2200 Group A, U1800 Group B, IM, Blitz and Rapid tournaments.

The main Master Group had 62 participants from Argentina, Brazil, Cuba, Italy, Paraguay, Portugal and Uruguay.
