European Youth Chess Championship starting soon

1121 young players coming from 46 European federations registered for the European Youth Chess Championship 2017 which takes place in Mamaia, Romania, from 4th-15th September.

The Championship will be played in 6 age categories: U8, U10, U12, U14, U16 and U18, boys and girls separately. The top three players in each group will be awarded cups and medals while the first five players will be awarded cups, diplomas and valuable prizes. Each participant will receive presents.

FIDE World Cup starts in Tbilisi

The FIDE World Cup will be held from 2nd to 27th of September in Hualing Hotel in Tbilisi, Georgia. The final will take place in the Biltmore Hotel Tbilisi from 23rd till 27th of September.

128 player Knock Out tournament brings together the strongest players in the world, as well as qualifiers from every region of the globe and has an impressive prize fund of 1.6 million US dollars.

EU Youth Chess Championship ended

15th EU Youth Chess Championship took place in Kouty nad Desnou, Czech Republic, from 18th-27th August. The Championship was organized in 4 age categories (U8, U10, U12, U14) for players from EU member countries, from EU candidate countries and from their neighboring countries.

Artur Pomar International Open

An open tournament dedicated to legendary Grandmaster Artur Pomar will take place from 20-26th November at the Hotel Horizonte in Palma de Mallorka, Spain.

The event will be held concurrently with the final leg of FIDE World Chess Grand Prix. The organizers are Federacio Balear d’Escacs and Chess Mallorca.

The tournament format is 7-round Swiss with the prize fund of 3500 EUR and 700 EUR reserved for the winner.

European Senior Chess Championship 2017 concluded

European Senior Chess Championship for 2017 which took place in Sabadell, Spain from 11th-21st August finished yesterday.

The Championship was played in two different age categories: 50+ and 65+. The separate Women’s Championship was organized just for the 50+ category, while women 65+ played in the Open section and fought for separate prizes.

European Youth Team Chess Championship – Round 3

Three rounds have been played in the European Youth Team Chess Championship 2017 which started on 16th of August in Rymanow Zdroj, Poland.

40 teams coming from 16 countries participate the Championship which is a new participation record.

FIDE Arbiters’ Seminar in Panama City – Results

From 10 to 13 August 2017 a FIDE Arbiters´ Seminar was organized in Panama City, Panama, by the Panama Chess Federation and under the auspice of FIDE.

The lecturer was IA Barbara Lopez Chavez Marino (CUB), FIDE Lecturer and Assistant lecturer was FA Roquelina Fandino Reyes (CUB).

The venue of the Seminar was the Continental Hotel, in Panama city

The lectures were given in Spanish language.

FIDE Arbiters’ Seminar in Norfolk, USA – Results

Official FIDE logoFrom 2 to 4 August 2017 a FIDE Arbiters’ Seminar was organized in Norfolk, Virginia, USA, by the US Chess Federation and under auspices of FIDE.

Levon Aronian convincing in Saint Louis Rapid & Blitz

The fourth leg of the Grand Chess Tour wrapped up in Saint Louis with Levon Aronian dominating the field.

He won the tournament with two rounds to spare and three points ahead of his closest rivals, Sergey Karjakin and Hikaru Nakamura. He collected $37,500 and 13 GCT points and is now in third place overall in the tour standings.

The rapid and blitz portion of the tour are officially over and the last stop will be in London in December where the winner of the entire tour will be determined.
