The 2017 European Senior Chess Championship will be held from 11th-21st August in Sabadell, Spain.

The Championship will be played in two categories: Senior 50+ and Senior 65+. The separated women’s competition will be organized only for 50+ group while women in 65+ group will play in Open competition with separate prizes.

The top seed in 50+ category is GM Zurab Sturua (GEO 2548), 2014 World Senior Champion, 2015 and 2016 European Senior Champion. The top seed for Female 50+ category is WGM Berend Elvira (LUX 2294).

The chess library of a famous coach Mark Dvoretsky (1947-2016) was solemnly donated to Adi Akhmad Sports Club (Troitskoe, the Republic of Ingushetia) at the Palace of Culture of Nazran.

The day after the rest day produced only one decisive game but quite a lot of action! Levon Aronian took advantage of Wesley So’s poor form and won the game in style, which improved his position in the standings.

396 players competed in the single section of the Championship that took place from 29th July to 6th August at the Sheraton Waterside Hotel in Norfolk, Virginia.

From 11 to 15 July 2017 a FIDE Arbiters’ Seminar was organized in Jakarta, Indonesia, by the Indonesian Chess Federation, in cooperation with the Gunadarma University and under the auspices of FIDE.

The Lecturer was IA Bunawan Bong (INA), FIDE Lecturer and Assistant Lecturer was IA Hamid Majid (MAS).

The lectures were in the English language with translation to Indonesian.

From 18th to June 24th, 2017 a FIDE Arbiters’ Seminar was organized in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, by the Mongolian Chess federation and under the auspices of FIDE.

The lecturer was IA Jamie Kenmure (AUS), FIDE Lecturer and Assistant lecturers were IA Sainbayar Tserendorj (MGL) and IA K.K Chan (HKG).

The lectures were given in English language with Mongolian translation.

Sixteen (16) people from Mongolia, Japan and England participated in the Seminar.

From 22 to 26 July 2017 a FIDE Arbiters’ Seminar was organized in Astana, Kazakhstan, by the Kazakhstan Chess Federation, in cooperation with the Astana Chess Federation and under the auspices of FIDE.

The lecturer was IA Ashot Vardapetian (ARM), FIDE Rules Commission Chairman and FIDE Lecturer. The lectures were in Russian language.

Twenty three (23) Arbiters from Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan participated in the Seminar.

A FIDE Arbiters’ Seminar is going to be organized from 21 to 24 September 2017 in Rize, Turkey, by the Turkish Chess Federation and under the auspices of FIDE.

Round 5 of the Sinquefield Cup was the final round before the day off and the players certainly gave their all. The most remarkable games were played by the current and former World Champions.

Viswanathan Anand played a sparkling sacrifice, completely demolishing Fabiano Caruana and winning in style. Magnus Carlsen was able to shake off yesterday’s brutal loss by taking advantage of Wesley So’s careless handling of the position.

The hard-fought game between Magnus Carlsen and Maxime Vachier-Lagrave produced the sole leader of the tournament for the first time.

Far from the perfect, the game was a rollercoaster ride which started as advantageous for Carlsen but several mistakes later ended in Vachier-Lagrave’s favor.
