GM Ruben Felgaer is champion of Argentina

GM Ruben Felgaer won his 5th title of Argentinian Chess Champion after defeating GM Federico Perez Ponsa 3-1 in blitz tiebreak.

In the regular 14-player round robin competition the two Grandmasters shared the first place with 9,5 points each, leaving the nearest follower point and a half behind.

The 2nd Gideon Japhet Memorial – Gelfand vs. Svidler rapid match is taking place on 20-24th July 2014 in Jerusalem, Israeli capital and one of the oldest cities in the world.

Three players share first place in Rethymno Chess Tournament

The 6th Rethymno International Chess Tournament was held on 12-19th July at the Municipal House of Culture, in the city of Rethymno on island Crete, Greece.

The event was a 9-round Swiss, valid for FIDE title norms. 149 players from 26 countries took part in the tournament, including 16 Grandmasters and 14 International Masters.

5th Vaujany International Chess Festival

The 5th Vaujany International Chess Festival was held on 10-18th July at the Espace Loisirs Center in Vaujany, France.

The competition was organized by Promo-Echecs and the total prize fund was 7300 EUR.
The Festival consisted of three events:
- Main tournament (Tournoi Principal), for players rated above 1850
- B tournament (Tournoi Accession), for players rated between 1450 and 1899
- C tournament (Petit’ Zelos), for players rated below 1500

British Chess Championship 2014 LIVE!

The British Individual Chess Championship 2014 is taking place from 19th July to 2nd August 2014 at the Aberystwyth University, Penglais Campus, in Aberystwyth, Ceredigion.

The event is an 11-round Swiss Open, including 59 participants.

Top prizes: 5.000 £/ 2.500 £/ 1.500 £/ 1.000 £/ 750 £/ 500 £/ 250 £

First seed is GM David Howell.

33rd Internet based FIDE Arbiters’ Seminar

Official FIDE logoFrom 9 to 13 June 2014 the 33rd Internet based FIDE Arbiters’ Seminar was held, organized by the Chess Educators of USA and under the auspices of FIDE.

The Lecturer and Technical Organizer of the seminar was IA/IO Sevan Muradian (USA), FIDE Lecturer.

The language of the Seminar was English.
