20th Delhi International Open postponed

The 20th edition of the Delhi International Open has been postponed due to the spread of Covid19 virus in India. The event will likely be conducted in March 2023 instead of the initially announced dates in January 2023.

FIDE Veterans Support Program

The International Chess Federation announced the continuation of its support to chess veterans. A number of grants will be awarded next month to distinguished players, coaches and organizers aged 65+. Anyone over this age who has contributed to the development of chess and who is in an unstable financial situation is eligible to submit an application.

Jan-Krzysztof Duda withdraws from Tata Steel Chess Masters 2023

Due to personal reasons, Jan-Krzysztof Duda has withdrawn from Tata Steel Masters 2023. Duda will be replaced by 2719 rated Parham Maghsoodloo (22) from Iran. Maghsoodloo is the current number-29 on the world ranking list.

Chess Olympiad for People with Disabilities to take place in Belgrade, Serbia

Belgrade, Serbia will host the Chess Olympiad for People with Disabilities, which will take from January 29 to February 5, 2023.  This is a team competition, played over four boards, and limited to a maximum of 30 participant teams: 27 teams are selected by rating, and four are nominated by the FIDE President. If there is an odd number of participating teams, the host Federation (Serbia) is entitled to register a second team.

13th Margaryan Memorial IM 2023 – LIVE

The 13th Margaryan Memorial IM is taking place from 8–15 January 2023 in Yerevan, Armenia. Players receive 90 minutes for 40 moves, followed by 15 minutes to the end of the game, plus a 30-second increment starting from move one.  It is a 10-player round-robin tournament with participation of Nikolay Averin, Nikita Matinian, Robert Piliposyan, Arsen Davtyan, Bachana Morchiashvili, Aleks Sahakyan, Edgar Hayrapetyan, Akaki Shalamberidze, Benik Agasarov and Rudolf Pashikyan.

The 13th Margaryan Memorial GM is taking place from 8–15 January 2023 in Yerevan, Armenia. Players receive 90 minutes for 40 moves, followed by 15 minutes to the end of the game, plus a 30-second increment starting from move one. It is a 10-player round-robin tournament with participation of Amirreza Pour Agha Bala, Sergei Lobanov, Bardiya Daneshvar, David Shahinyan, Emin Ohanyan, Mariam Mkrtchyan, Artur Davtyan, Zurab Sturua, Klementy Sychev and Erik Chaqryan.

Faouzi Abdellatif Memorial 2023 – LIVE

The Faouzi Abdellatif Memorial is taking place from 7–8 January 2023 in Casablanca, Morocco. Players receive 15 minutes for the entire game, plus a 5-second increment starting from move one. It is a 9-round Swiss tournament with participation of Jean-Pierre Le Roux, Mokliss El Adnani, Ilyass Msellek, Yasser Hadj Kholti, Chafik Idrissi, Nicolas Dubreuil, Abdessadek Maalla, Anwar Tarik, Mohamed Arrami, etc.
