Russia and India Green leading World Youth Chess Olympiad

Two rounds were played on the second day of the World Youth Chess Olympiad 2017 being held at the Karnavati Club in Ahmedabad. After a comfortable first day for all the top seeds, the second day already witnessed some surprising turnarounds.

In the second round, the top seeds India Green successfully fended off the Turkish challenge with wins on the first two boards. GM Aryan Chopra managed to beat FM Denis Ozen, rated 2412 with the black pieces.

ECU School Chess Teacher training course in Budapest

The 4th ECU School Chess Teacher training course took place from 2nd-3rd December in PODIT Educational and Chess Center in Budapest, Hungary.

The course comprised of two days of interactive presentations, group discussions and practical exercises with focus on the teaching aspects of chess.

Participants, after completing the course, had to pass the online test to reach the ECU School Chess Teacher Certificate awarded by the ECU, as the confirmation for having an adequate level of chess knowledge and didactic methods for the classroom.

Fabiano Caruana wins London Chess Classic

At the end of the 8.5 hour chess day, two champions were crowned. In a dramatic finale, Fabiano Caruana defeated Ian Nepomniachtchi in the second blitz game of the playoffs to win the 2017 London Chess Classic.

After several misses both in the rapids and the first blitz game, he emerged victorious in the time scramble. The playoffs came half an hour after Caruana’s six-hour grind against Michael Adams. This is the first Grand Chess Tour victory for the American.

WYOC 2017: A minor upset amidst clean sweeps in round 1

The World Youth Chess Olympiad 2017 was off to a clean start for all the top seeds. With an average rating of 2509, India Green is clearly the strongest on paper but there was a minor flutter on the first board when the only Grandmaster of the tournament was held to a draw by a Bangladeshi super-talent.

14-year-old Mohammad Fahad Rahman, rated 2232 of Bangladesh is the No.1 ranked player in his country in Under-18 category.

European Women Individual Chess Championship 2018

European Women Individual Chess Championship 2018 will take place in Vysoke Tatry, Slovakia, from 7th to 20th April. The event will be held in a 4* Hotel Bellevue, located in the national park of Vysoke Tatry, as the official hotel and the playing venue of the Championship.

London Chess Classic – Round 8

Round eight of the London Chess Classic started slowly with three early draws but then took a dramatic turn of events that changed the nature of the tournament.

Tournament co-leader Fabiano Caruana felt comfortable with his draw believing that a plus two score is needed to at least tie for first. Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, who needs to score three more tour points than Carlsen, was not thrilled with his draw with the white pieces but still kept his chances open for taking the overall tour title.

London Chess Classic to host 2018 Grand Chess Tour Finals

The 2018 Grand Chess Tour will conclude with an exciting new format at the London Chess Classic. The four top‑scoring players will contest a semi-final and final that will determine the overall winner and top 4 places in the 2018 GCT.

The format change has been determined by the GCT Advisory Board and was announced earlier today during the 8th and penultimate round of the London Chess Classic.
