Russian Railways win 1st European Corporate Chess Championship

The Closing Ceremony of the 1st European Corporate Chess Championship took place on Saturday 25th November evening, where the President of the European Chess Union, Mr. Zurab Azmaiparashvili awarded the Winners with main prizes, trophies, while five special prizes were awarded by the President of the French Chess Federation (FFE), Mr. Bachar Kouatly.

High interest for amateurs sections of Tata Steel Chess Tournament

Amateurs’ interest in participating in the Tata Steel Chess Tournament 2018 is very high. Two of the three amateur groups are already complete: the Weekend-three-round events and the Nine-round events. A waiting list has been set up for these groups.

There is still room for amateurs to participate in the Weekday-three-round events. Entries can be submitted through www.tatasteelchess.com.

Zhansaya Abdumalik and Aryan Tari are 2017 World Junior Champions

The FIDE World Junior Chess Champions for 2017 are proclaimed. The event for boys and girls under 20 took place in Tarvisio, Italy from 12th-26th November.

In the Open section, after 13 rounds and harsh struggles, three players emerged on the top with the same score of 8.5/13. Aryan Tari from Norway took the gold and became the Winner of the Championship thanks to the better tie-breaks than Manuel Petrosyan (ARM) who ended second and Aravindh Chithambaram Vr. (IND) who finished with bronze in his hands.

FIDE confirms: Magnus Carlsen to play in World Rapid & Blitz

The rise of esports has many wondering if it will soon apply for and receive Olympic inclusion.

Norwegian Magnus Carlsen, the world chess champion since 2013, believes his trade deserves priority.

“Chess has centuries, even millenia of history, which esports, obviously, they don’t,” Carlsen said for NBC Sports. “Personally, for me, it wouldn’t make sense [for esports to get in the Olympics first].”
