The 11th Annual Philadelphia Open was held over the Easter weekend from April 12-16, 2017, at the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown, 1201 Market St., Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The event had 7 sections: Open, Under 2200, Under 2000, Under 1800, Under 1600, Under 1400 and Under 1100.

The main Open Section was a 5-day, 9-round Swiss tournament with FIDE norms possible. 91 players competed.

Gashimov Memorial Shamkir Chess 2017 dedicated to the memory of the great chess player Vugar Gashimov is going to take place April 20 – May 1.

The 55th edition of Doeberl Cup took place from 13-17th April, 2017 in at the Australian National University in Canberra, Australia.

The second FIDE Grand Prix will take place from 11-22nd May at the Central Telegraph, the venue of 2016 Candidates Tournament, in Moscow, Russia.

Nikita Vitiugov emerged winner of the GRENKE Chess Open 2017 after concluding the race with 7,5/9 points and edging the opposition on tie-break.

The 18th Karpov Poikovsky Tournament is set to take place from 18-27th April at the Sports School “Neptune” in Poikovsky, Nefteyugansk Ugra, Russia. The round robin tournament with ten players has the average elo of 2679.

The winner of 2015 and 2016 is also on top in 2017 again – on the final day, the American Hikaru Nakamura again showed his outstanding class and won the Blitz tournament half a point ahead of the Indian Viswanathan Anand and a full point ahead of Ian Nepomniachtchi, who had shared first place with Naka after the Classical.

The 44th Torneo Internacional de Ajedrez de La Roda was organized by the Club Polideportivo de La Roda from 12-16th April, 2017 at La Caja Blanca in La Roda, Albacete, Spain.

International Masters Jose Angel Guerra Mendez (Cuba) and Juan Luis Ramiro Ovejero (Spain) excelled in the field of 263 players with 12 Grandmasters to share the first place with 7,5/9 points each. Guerra Mendez also earned a GM norm.

The 63rd Open Chess Championship of Mexico was held from 11-16th April at the Hotel Radisson Poliforum, León, Guanajuato.

More than 1300 players competed in the various age and elo sections. The main open event had 151 participants.

Grandmaster Emilio Cordova from Peru emerged clear winner with 7,5/9 points.
