Hou Yifan and Ernesto Inarkiev in “Friendship Match”

Women’s World Champion Hou Yifan and European Champion Ernesto Inarkiev will play a match on 17th September in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, capital of Kamchatka Krai on Russian Far East.

Reykjavik Open 2017

The Reykjavik Open 2017 will be held for the 32nd time from April 19th till April 27th, 2017, in Harpa, the 28.000 sqm. concert hall, in Reykjavik, Iceland. The 2017 tournament is expected to be very strong.

The total prize-fund in the 2017 edition will be €15.000, including many special prizes for various age – and rating categories, in addition to the traditional top women’s prize.

The top prizes are EUR 5000/2000/1250/800/600 etc

Leonardo da Vinci chess player?

The famous Leonardo da Vinci was a chess player? Italian architect Franco Rocco claims ‘yes’ and to verify it an interesting exhibition is going on until 30th September in Milan, Italy (91 Monte Rosa Street, PwC Space).

The exhibition is carried out by Rocco, who made in-depth studies on the matter and wrote an interesting book “Leonardo e Luca Pacioli. L’evidenza” (edited for the moment only in Italian by Le Due Torri, www.chess.it).

FIDE Arbiters’ Seminar in Tangier, Morocco

Official FIDE logoA FIDE Arbiters’ Seminar is going to be organized from 5 to 9 December 2016 in Tangier, Morocco, by the Moroccan Chess Federation and under the auspices of FIDE.

Mikhail Tal Memorial 2016

The 10th Mikhail Tal Memorial will be played in the Museum of Russian Impressionism (Moscow), one of the leading private museums in Russia, from 25th September to 6th October.

Avtodor Group of Companies will be a co-organizer of the 10th Tal Memorial together with the Russian Chess Federation. The total prize fund is 200,000 USD.

Bulgarian Chess Federation expelled from European Chess Union

At the General Assembly held on 10th September in Baku, Azerbaijan, the European Chess Union voted with overwhelming majority to suspend the membership of the Bulgarian Chess Federation.

The ECU Board motion against the Bulgarian Chess Federation membership was backed by 37 votes from 51 federations in attendance. 11 votes were against, 2 abstained (with blank ballots) and 1 was invalid.

FIDE Seminar for International Organizers in Baku – Results

A FIDE Seminar for International Organizers was held from 3-5th September at the“ Crystal Hall” in Baku during the 42nd Chess Olympiad.

The objective of the Seminar was to educate and certify Organizers on an international basis. Topics in the seminar covered the latest regulations of Events Commission (Mission, Members, Events Regulations, Bid Procedure, Ratings and Titles and Events’ Management).

USA and China take gold in Baku Chess Olympiad

The United States of America have won their first Olympic gold medals since 1976 after a grueling and exciting last round. Despite clearly outrating opponents and neighbors Canada, they could only manage a 2.5-1.5 win.

This gave rivals Ukraine a chance to overtake them on tie-breaks; they did put in a spirited performance, culminating in a 3.5-0.5 win against Slovenia, but it turned out not to be enough.

Serbian Open Chess Championship 2016

Chess Federation of Serbia and Novi Sad Chess Union are organizing the 2016 Serbian Open Chess Championship from 6-13th November in Novi Sad, Serbia.

The Championship is supported by the Novi Sad Department for Sport and Youth and the playing venue is SPENS small hall.

SPENS takes a special place in the chess history as venue of 1990 Chess Olympiad and 2009 European Team Chess Championship.

Danailov, Stoisavljevic, Sakotic suspended by FIDE Ethics Commission

The FIDE Ethics Commission during its meetings held in Baku on 6-8th September unanimously decided to suspend the former ECU President Silvio Danailov, former ECU General Secretary Sava Stoisavljevic and former ECU Executive Director Vladimir Sakotic.
