Magnus Carlsen to play in Tromsø Chess Olympiad

The President of the Norwegian Chess Federation, Jøran Aulin-Jansson, promises that Magnus Carlsen will be part of the Norwegian team at the next Chess Olympiad in Tromsø.

“Magnus has given a verbal guarantee that he will play, and he is not a man to run away from his promises. He will play as long as he is in good health and I hope that’s the case for many, many years,” says Aulin-Jansson.

DSC_0039The eighth game of the FIDE World Championship Match, sponsored by Tamil Nadu state and currently ongoing in Chennai, finished in draw after 33 moves of play. Carlsen preserved the two points advantage, and with four games to go needs only 1,5 points to become World Champion.

International Grandmaster Open in Chennai – Three players share lead

Grandmaster M R Lalith Babu of India defeated GM Ter-Sahakyan Samvel of Armenia and moved into shared lead with 4.5 points, after the fifth round of the Chennai Grandmaster International Open Chess tournament held in celebration of the FIDE World Championship Match 2013 at Nehru Stadium, Chennai here today.

Karpov Rapid Tournament in Chelyabinsk

The Chelyabinsk State University hosted a rapid chess tournament in honour of the 12th World Champion Anatoly Karpov on 16-17th November.

88 players from 16 Russian cities, Kazakhstan, Brazil, Slovakia and Latvia took part in the competition. Among them were 12 Grandmasters.

After 11 rounds of play, Grandmaster Ivan Bukavshin (2612) took a clear first place with 9,0 points.

Grandmasters Igor Lysyj (2640) and Petr Kostenko (2451) and FM Artiom Frolov (2388) shared the second place with 8,5 points each.

Stockfish leads TCEC Stage 4

stockfish-4Stage 4 of the world’s strongest computer chess championship TCEC is entering in it’s final battles. The winner of Stage 4 and the second placed will proceed to the Superfinal to determine the strongest computer engine of 2013.
