Caruana wins New In Chess Yearbook Novelty of the Year Award

caruanaFabiano Caruana is the winner of the New In Chess Yearbook Novelty of the Year Award 2014 for his dazzling move 14.Rc1! in the Poisoned Pawn Variation of the Advance Caro-Kann. The Italian World #2 beat Maxime Vachier-Lagrave in St. Louis, as part of his amazing seven-games winning streak. His novelty got 32% of the vote.

International Chess Festival Nakhchivan Open 2015

The International Chess Festival Nakhchivan Open 2015, dedicated to the memory of Heydar Aliyev, is scheduled to take place from 1-10th May at the Nakhchivan Chess Center in Nakhchivan, Azerbaijan.

The Festival is organized by the Azerbaijan Youth & Sport Ministry, Azerbaijan Chess Federation and Nakhchivan AR Chess Federation.

Last year the winner was Grandmaster Boris Savchenko.

Copa Latinoamericana Kirsan Ilymzhinov LIVE!

Copa Latinoamericana Kirsan Ilyumzhinov 2015 is the 6th edition of the traditional South American tournament. It is taking place 19-25 March in Buenos Aires. More than 150 players are competing for 12 000 USD prize fund.

Top seeded players are GM Axel Bachmann, GM Jorge Cori, GM Ruben Felgaer, GM Diego Flores, GM Ivan Morovic, GM Krikor Sevag Mekhitarian, and a total of 50 titled participants.

Games will be daily live with analysis on Chessdom.com with the top TCEC engines Komodo, Stockfish, and Houdini.

European Senior Chess Championship 2015 – Participants

The 15th European Senior Chess Championship for Men and Women will be held in Eretria, Greece, from 28th April to 8th May, 2015.

The tournament venue is the conference center of the 4-star “Eretria Village” Hotel, near the legendary ancient city of Eretria.

Vladislav Artemiev winner of Agzamov Memorial

The 17-years old Russian Grandmaster Vladislav Artemiev took the winner’s trophy in the 9th Tashkent Open – Memorial of Georgy Agzamov after edging his compatriot Vladislav Tkachiev on tie-break.

The two players finished on 7,0/9 points each.

FIDE Women’s World Championship – Round 1 Tiebreaks

Following the games with the classical time control, the third day of the FIDE Women’s World Championship (Sochi, Krasnaya Polyana) was reserved for the tie-breaks with rapid and blitz games.

As many as 11 pairs were to settle the score in this format.
