The 52nd Groningen Chess Festival was held from 21-30th December at the Sport Centre Rijksuniversiteit & Hanzehogeschool in Groningen, Netherlands.

The 7th Chennai International Open Grandmaster Chess Tournament is taking place from 30th December, 2014, to 6th January, 2015, at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai, India.

The event is organized by the Tamil Nadu State Chess Association and total cash prize fund in the amount of Rs. 14, 00, 000/- (approx 18,000 EUR) is provided.

180 participants from 12 different countries are taking part in the event, including 17 Grandmasters and 30 International Masters with 2.600 € reserved for the winner.

The 38th Zurich Christmas Open was held on 26-30th December, 2014, at the Crowne Plaza Zürich in Zurich, Switzerland.

The Master Tournament was a 7-round of Swiss event, open to all players rated above 2000.

The 24th Annual North American Open is taking place from 26-30th December at Bally’s Casino Resort, 3645 Las Vegas Blvd S, Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Open Section is a 9-round Swiss tournament, valid for GM and IM norms.

Gata Kamsky won the 2014 Empire City Open after edging fellow Grandmaster Robert Hungaski on tie-break. The two players finished with 5,0/6 points each and earned 900 USD apiece.

A FIDE Arbiters’ Seminar is going to be organized from 1 to 4 February 2015 in Casablanca, Morocco, by the Moroccan Chess Federation and under the auspices of FIDE.

The Planetwin 365 – All Stars 2014 Blitz Chess Tournament is taking place on 29th December 2014 in Belgrade, Serbia.

The event is a 25-player round-robin tournament with tempo of play 3′ + 2″ and gathers Serbian champions from the last ten years.

As hinted on Twitter earlier, the famous Aeroflot Open will be restarted in its classical format in 2015. The last classical event was held in 2012, while the 2013-tournament was played with short time controls.

The Aeroflot Open will be held from 27th March till 7th April at the Cosmos Hotel in Moscow. The total prize fund is 140.000 Euro.
