Hovhannes Gabuzyan and Adela Velikic win European Universities Chess Games 2016

GM Hovhannes Gabuzyan (Armenian State Institute of Physical Culture) and Adela Velikic (University of Belgrade) are the winners of the European Universities Chess Games, which were held in Zagreb/Croatia, 12-15 July in Pauk Hall.

Israel and Ukraine with gold medals in European Youth Team Chess Championship

Teams of Israel in Open section and Ukraine in Girl’s section are the winners of the European Youth Team U18 Chess Championship 2016, which was held in Celje, Slovenia. Both teams dominated the competition and well deserved triumphed.

In the Open event Israel defeated Austria in the final decisive round and won with 13 match points. Second place went to the first seed Hungary with 11 match points, while Ukraine came third with 9 match points.

Ding Liren vs Grischuk LIVE!

Ding Liren and Alexander Grischuk are going to play a friendly match in Wenzhou, China, from 19-22 July 2016. The games are with classical time control and the prize fund is 30 000 USD, with 20 000 USD going for the winner of the match.

This is a second preparation match for Ding Liren. He recently played a similar format against Wesley So in Shanghai.

Bilbao – first Europe vs Rest of the World team match

Tomorrow, at 12:00, in the Campos Elíseos Theatre, the tournament venue, the Bilbao Chess Masters Final will organise the first Europe vs Rest of the World team match, a pioneering initiative within the sport.

The European team will consist of the world champion, the Norwegian Magnus Carlsen, the Russian Sergey Karjakin and the Dutch player Anish Giri, whilst the Rest of the World will be represented by the North Americans Hikaru Nakamura and Wesley So and the Chinese player Yi Wei.
