Alexander Morozevich winner of Star Trek Rapid in Korolev

The city of Korolev in Moscow Oblast hosted the “Star Trek” rapid chess tournament on 8-9th April. The event is a stage in the Rapid Grand Prix of Russia.

90 players competed in the 11-round Swiss tournament with the time control 15′+10”. Among them were 25 Grandmasters and 11 International Masters.

The  Dubai Chess Open 2016 – Rashid Bin Hamdan Al Maktoum Cup  opened Monday night at the Dubai Chess and Culture Club with most of the favourites easily hurdling their round-one assignments, but a handful could only split the point against their overmatched opponents – and some even had to work hard to save the draw.

IM Helgi Dam Ziska wins European Small Nations Chess Championship

International Master Helgi Dam Ziska (2542) from Faroe Islands became the winner of the 2nd European Small Nations Individual Chess Championship 2016 and qualified for the World Cup 2017.

Ziska finished the tournament with 9,5/11 points, by defeating IM Kelires Andreas (CYP 2466) in the last round.

International Chess Festival Nakhchivan Open 2016

The International Chess Festival Nakhchivan Open 2016, dedicated to the memory of Heydar Aliyev, is scheduled to take place from 9-19th May at the Nakhchivan Chess Center in Nakhchivan, Azerbaijan.

The Festival is organized by the Azerbaijan Youth & Sport Ministry, Azerbaijan Chess Federation and Nakhchivan AR Chess Federation.

Last year the winner was Grandmaster Eltaj Safarli.

French Junior Chess Championship 2016

The French Junior Chess Championship is taking place 10-17 April in Gonfreville. It is divided into 14 age categories. A total of 10 000 players entered the qualifications and 1300 qualified for the finals in Gonfreville

Serbian Chess Championship 2016

The Serbian Individual Chess Championship is taking place 11-19 April in Pirot. The event is a 10 player round robin with classical time control – 90min for 40 moves + 30 min to the end plus 30sec increment per move starting from move 1.

The participants in this years national championship are GM Branko Damljanovic, GM Boban Bogosavljevic, GM Miodrag Savic, IM Milan Zajic, GM Miroslav Miljkovic, GM Danilo Milanovic, GM Dejan Antic, GM Goran Todorovic, GM Miroslav Markovic, and Vuk Djordjevic.
