GM Wang Hao wins 4th Al Ain Chess Classic

With the trophy ensured a round to spare, GM Wang Hao of China agreed to a draw with top seed Yuriy Kryvoruchko of Ukraine in the last round of the 4th Al Ain Classic Chess Championship at the Hili Reyhaan Rotana Hotel in Al Ain, UAE.

Planetwin365 – All Stars 2015 Blitz Tournament

The Planetwin365 – All Stars 2015 Blitz Tournament was held on 28th December at the Planetwin365 Club in Bezanijska Kosa, Belgrade.

24 players competed in the round robin tournament, dubbed as “unofficial” blitz championship of Serbia, with the time control 3′+2”. There were 9 Grandmasters in the field.

Grandmasters Milos Perunovic took a clear first place with 18,0/23 points.

Qatar Masters Open 2015 – Round 9 Video

World Champion Magnus Carlsen won the Qatar Masters Chess Open 2015 after defeating the last year winner Yu Yangyi in tie-breaks. Carlsen continued the hot streak after his win in the London Chess Classics.

GM Wang Hao of China hurdled the challenge from GM Abhijeet Gupta of India in the penultimate round to win the championship with one round to spare in the 4th Al Ain Chess Classic at the Hili Reyhaan Rotana Hotel in Al Ain, UAE.

It proved to be a most dramatic last round in the Open category of the JAPFA 3rd ASEAN Championships 2015.

Leader IM Jan Emmanuel Garcia had a half point lead and was paired with fellow countryman IM Paola Bersamina and despite their team leader and coach GM Jayson’s Gonzales assurance they would play the game fairly, most participants still saw the result as a forgone conclusion.

JAPFA 3rd ASEAN Championships – Round 10

There were some fierce battles in the 10th round of the JAPFA 3rd ASEAN Championships being held at the Utut Adianto Chess School in Bekasi, Jakarta from 21-31 December 2015.

In the last game to finish in the Open Championship, IM Jan Emmanuel Garcia battled to a draw against IM Lufti Muhammad Ali to retain a half point lead on 6.5/10 going into the final round after his closest rival FM Nguyen Anh Khoi opted for a quick draw against IM Wynn Zaw Htun to ensure his first IM norm.
