The 2016 edition of Basel Chess Festival took place from January 1-5, in Basel, Switzerland.

The 11th Gelendzhik Chess Festival is taking place from January 4-12, 2016, in Gelendzhik, Russia.

The event is a 9-round Swiss FIDE tournament with the participation of 35 players from Azerbaijan and Russia.

Top seed is GM Melor Bedia (2428) from Russia.

The 2016 Gibraltar Chess Festival will take place from January 25 to February 5 in Caleta Hotel, Gibraltar. It is an open event with 10 rounds of Swiss that features some of the top players in the world.
