Tbilisi Grand Prix concluded, Evgeny Tomashevsky leader in GP overall standings

In a scenario repeating from the previous day, all games of the 11th round of the FIDE Grand Prix in Tbilisi were drawn.

The longest game of the round was Giri – Dominguez, where each player tried to win and reach shared third place. After more than six hours of play, nearly causing the delay of the closing ceremony, this game too finished in a draw.

Efimov and Berezovska new Monaco Chess Champions

Grandmaster Igor Efimov (ELO 2390) has won the 2015 Monaco Chess Championship, which was held at the Monaco Chess Club, from 20-25th February.

Efimov scored 5,5 points, the same as Karl Ribbegren (ELO 2202), but thanks to better tie-break, Efimov took the title. GM Algimantas Butnorius (ELO 2377) came clear third with 5 points.

Svetlana Berezovska (ELO 1849) became the Women Champion.

Evgeny Tomashevsky wins Tbilisi Grand Prix with a round to spare

Evgeny TomashevskyIn the 10th round of the FIDE Grand Prix in Tbilisi all games were drawn. This worked perfectly fine for Evgeny Tomashevsky who secured the first place in the tournament with one round to spare.

Levan Kipiani: I think chess has a bright future in Georgia

Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs of Georgia, Mr.Levan Kipiani, visited the Grand Prix venue and made the honorary move in the game between Rustam Kasimdzhanov and Baadur Jobava.

Mr.Kipiani kindly agreed to give a short statement for the tournament website.

Evgeny Tomashevsky remains humble: “It is also matter of luck”

After nine rounds of play in the FIDE Grand Prix in Tbilisi Russian Grandmaster Evgeny Tomashevsky is enjoying a big 1,5 points lead ahead of the nearest follower.

However, he warns that nothing is over yet:

“I don’t think the tournament is over, there are still two more games to go and everyone wants to beat me.”

GM Nosenko dominant in 15th Liberec Open

The 15th Liberec Open 2015 was held from 14th to 21st February 2015 in Liberec, a city in the Czech Republic located on the Lusatian Neisse and surrounded by the Jizera Mountains and Ještěd-Kozákov Ridge.

The event is a 9-round Swiss open with time control 90′ + 30″.

94 players from 14 different federations took part in the tournament, including 1 GM, 5 IMs, 3 WIMs and 4 FM.

Chess Works & Play Live Challenge with Magnus Carlsen

World champion Magnus Carlsen informed through Twitter about the exciting chess events that will take place on 5th May at Carnegie Hall in New York, USA.

Carlsen will participate in “Chess Works”, an event with the First Move Non-Profit Organization, and the “Play Magnus Live Challenge”, where he will meet and play the winners from the popular app.
