The Serbian First League Team Championship for Men is taking place from 30th August to 9th September 2014 in the town of Palic, Serbia.

Nikaia Open 2014The 22nd Nikaia International Chess Open 2014 was held from 26th August to 2nd September 2014 at the Cultural Complex “Manos Loizos” in Nikaia suburb in the western part of the Athens-Piraeus agglomeration, in Greece.

Reykjavik Open 2015

The 30th Reykjavik Open will take place on 10-18th March, 2015, at the familiar venue – the Harpa Conference Hall.

The 2015 event falls on the same year as the 80th birthday of the legendary Icelandic Grandmaster and former FIDE President Fridrik Olafsson, who even played in the tournament two years ago.

FIDE Women’s Grand Prix in Sharjah R8 – Ju Wenjun and Hou Yifan draw, remain in lead

The central game of the eighth round between Ju Wenjun and Hou Yifan finished in a draw and the two Chinese players remain at the top of the Sharjah FIDE Women’s Grand Prix leaderboard with 6,5 points each.

Batchimeg Tuvshintugs outplayed Alina L’Ami to keep the third place one point behind the leaders.

Elina Danielian defeated Nafisa Muminova and now shares the fourth place with Anna Ushenina and Harika Dronavalli.

Caruana Extends Perfection in Sinquefield Cup

The 2014 Sinquefield Cup, already claiming a page of history as the strongest-rated tournament ever, may now be remembered for a different mark in time altogether. On Tuesday afternoon at the host venue Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis, GM Fabiano Caruana earned his second win over GM Veselin Topalov with a stunning piece sacrifice, bringing the Italian’s record to a perfect 6-0.

Myanmar International Open 2014

The 2014 Myanmar International Open is set to take place on 23-30th November at the Central Hotel, Bogyoke Aung San Road in Yangon, Myanmar.

This event is organized by Myanmar Chess Federation under the auspices of the Myanmar National Olympic Council and supported by the Kasparov Chess Foundation Asia-Pacific.

The event will be completed over 9 rounds of Swiss system with the time control 90 minutes for the whole game with 30 seconds increment for every move starting from the first move.

Alexander Morozevich wins St. Petersburg Summer Rapid

Grandmaster Alexander Morozevich won the St. Petersburg stage of Rapid Grand Prix of Russia, which took place on 30-31st August as part of the traditional festival “St. Petersburg Summer”.

Morozevich had a furious start, scoring 7,5 points from eight games, and proceeded to win the event with the final 9,0/11 points.

Leonid Kritz clear first in 80th Southwest Open

The 80th Annual Southwest Open was held from 29th August to 1st September at the Doubletree DFW Airport North in Irving, Texas, USA.

The event had three sections – Open, Reserve (U2000), Novice (U1400) – and a scholastic event. The sections were played over 7 rounds of Swiss system, while the scholastic event was one-day 5-round Swiss.

The main Open section had 69 participants from 10 countries, including five Grandmasters and six International Masters.
