The new seventh season of the top computer chess championship TCEC is starting September 19th.

The Skovbo GM tournament is taking place from 5th to 14th September at the Borup Kulturhus, Møllevej 2, 4140 Borup, Denmark.

The 9-round Swiss event has attracted 52 participants.

The new Chess Informant 121 “Midnight Sun” dedicated to the Chess Olympiad in Tromso is available in the Chessdom Chess Shop.

Polonia Wroclaw Chess Club, under the patronage of the European Chess Union and the Polish Chess Federation, organizes the European Rapid & Blitz Chess Championship 2014, from 19-21 December, 2014, in Wroclaw, Poland.

The Championship will be held under the auspices of Rafa Dutkiewicz – the President of the city of Wroclaw and will bear the name the 23rd Adolf Anderssen Memorial.

The final stage of the Portuguese Chess Championship 2014 will be held from 7th to 13th September at the Hotel AS in Lisbon.

Ten players will compete in the round robin tournament.

Our Moscow correspondent met with Berik Balgabaev, Executive Assistant to FIDE President, and took the opportunity to ask a couple of quick questions.

Q: Good day Mr Balgabaev, it’s been a few weeks since the Chess Olympiad and FIDE elections in Tromso. What are your impressions?

The World Senior Chess Championship will be held in Katerini, Greece from 23 October to 5 November 2014.

The tournament will take place in the conference center of “Mediterranean Village” in Katerini, Olympus Riviera, Greece.

The Championship is organized in categories over 50 and over 65 with separate tournament for women.

With a draw against Elina Danielian in the 9th round of the FIDE Women’s Grand Prix in Sharjah, UAE, the World Champion Hou Yifan secured overall first place in the FIDE Women Grand Prix Series 2013-2014.

Yifan’s main competitor in the Series, Humpy Koneru, fell behind in the standings and can not catch up with only two rounds to go.

Meanwhile in the ongoing event in Sharjah, Ju Wenjun moved into sole lead by defeating Harika Dronavalli to stay half a point ahead of Yifan.

Clinching first place of the 2014 Sinquefield Cup is GM Fabiano Caruana, who claimed the lion’s share of the U.S. super tournament’s $315,000 prize fund with two rounds remaining.
