Veterans’ support program by ACP and FIDE

ACP and FIDE are proud to announce the veterans’ support program, that is aimed to help the chess legends, who dedicated their life to our beloved game.

According to the decision of the joint ACP – FIDE panel, this year six distinguished veterans will get the award (5.000 USD each) as an appreciation for their contribution to chess. Please, find below the names of awardees:

GM Erwin L’Ami wins Chefchaouen Festival

The 13th edition of the International Chess Festival Chefchaouen, Morocco took place on 1-5th September 2014 in Chefchaouen, a city in northwest Morocco, famous for its buildings in shades of blue.

GM Andrey Vovk clear first in Trieste

TriesteThe 16th International Chess Festival of Trieste took place from 30th August to 6th September 2014 in the city of Trieste, Italy.

Oslo Chess International 2014

Oslo Chess International 2014The 2014 Oslo Chess International tournament will take place from 28th September to 5th October at the Thon Hotel Ullevaal Stadion, Sognsveien 77c, Oslo, Norway.

2nd Zuger Schachopen

The 2nd Zuger Schachopen will take place this weekend 12-14th September at the Clubhaus SAC Rossberg, Feldstrasse 20, 6300 Zug, Switzerland.

The event is organized by the Schachförderverein Zug und Adrian M. Siegel.

The competition will be completed over five rounds of Swiss system with the time control 90′/40 + 15′ + 30”. The prize fund is 1550 CHF.

IM Mikkel Antonsen leads Skovbo GM Tournament 2014

Skovbo GM 2014The Skovbo GM tournament (KKSA) is taking place from 5th to 14th September at the Borup Kulturhus, Møllevej 2, 4140 Borup, Denmark.

The 9-round Swiss event with a time control 90′ + 30″ has attracted 52 participants.

Le Quang Liem convincing in Webster SPICE Rapid Invitational

The Webster University in Saint Louis hosted the SPICE Rapid Invitational tournament on Saturday 6th September.

16 players, including nine Grandmasters, competed in the 6-round Swiss event.

Grandmaster Le Quang Liem emerged convincing winner after concluding the race with perfect 6,0/6 score, full two points ahead of the chasing pack.

FIDE Women’s Grand Prix in Sharjah – Ju Wenjun and Hou Yifan share first place

Chinese Grandmasters Ju Wenjun and Hou Yifan are the joint winners of the 6th and final stage of the FIDE Women’s Grand Prix that was held in Sharjah, UAE.

In the 11th round World Champion Hou Yifan defeated Alina L’Ami to catch her compatriot Ju Wenjun, who in turn escaped with an important draw against Tatiana Kosintseva.

Batchimeg Tuvshintugs, who earlier held clear third place, lost to Harika Dronavalli and opened a way for a group of players to joint her on 6,5 points each.
