The 29th Schwarzacher Chess Open 2014 is taking place at the Ballroom of the Hotel Post in Schwarzach im Pongau, a market town in the Austrian state of Salzburg on 16-23 August 2014.

The event is a 9-round Swiss with a time control 90 minutes for 40 moves plus 30 minutes for the rest of the game plus 30 seconds increment starting from move 1.

Top seed is GM Vitaly Kunin (Germany).

The 16th Open Internacional de Sants, Hostafrancs & Bordeta is set to take place on 22-30th August at the Auditoridel Centre Cívic de les Cotxeres de Sants, 79 Sants St in Barcelona, Spain.

The 10-round Swiss event consists of two sections:
- Group A: open to all players, regardless of their rating, with a FIDE ID
- Group B: for all players U2100 Catalan elo and U2000 FIDE elo

The Internacional Tournament d’Escacs Igualada 2014 was held on 19th August at the Teatre Municipal L’Ateneu, 08700 Igualada, Barcelona, Spain.

The rapid event was completed over eight rounds of Swiss system.

Peruvian players GM Julio Granda Zuniga and IM Filemon Cruz shared the first place with 7,0/8 points each. Granda Zuniga claimed the top prize of 1000 EUR thanks to the better tie-break.

The 9th Annual Indianapolis Open will be held from August 22-24, 2014, at the Crowne Plaza Indianapolis Airport, 2501 S. High School Rd (off I-465 & Airport Expwy), Indianapolis, Indiana.

The event has 5 sections: Open, Under 2100, Under 1800, Under 1500 and Under 1200. All sections have either 3-day (August 22-24) or 2-day (August 23-24) schedules to play in.

The tournament format is 5-round Swiss, 40/110, SD/30, d10 (2-day option, rounds 1-2 G/60, d10).

The 21st Abu Dhabi International Chess Festival Masters Tournament will take place from 20-29th August at the Abu Dhabi Chess & Culture Club in United Arab Emirates.

The Festival is supported by the Abu Dhabi Sport Council and consists of following sections:

The 10th Asian Schools Chess Championship 2014 are set to take place from 23-30th August in Taichung, Taiwan.

The event is organized by the Chinese Taipei Chess Association and co-sponsored by the Taiwan Intelligent Ironman Creativity Contest Association and Washington High School.

The 44th Annual Continental Open was held from August 7-10, 2014, at the Host Hotel at Cedar Lake, 366 Main St (Rt 20 West), Sturbridge, Massachusetts (I-84 Exit 3, near I-90).

The event had 7 sections: Open, Under 2100, Under 1900, Under 1700, Under 1500, Under 1300 and Under 1000. The tournament format is 6-round Swiss, 40/110, SD/30, d10.

Belgrade Chess Union has the sad duty to inform that Grandmaster Dragoljub Ćirić passed away at the age of 80.

Ćirić was born in Novi Sad in 1935 and already as a 10-years old boy made a debut for the senior team of Čačak Chess Club.
