Saint Louis to host 2014 US Championships

The best chess players in the U.S. will gather in Saint Louis once again to fight for the title of U.S. Champion and U.S. Women’s Champion.

For the sixth consecutive year Saint Louis will host the top chess tournaments in the nation.

GM Gata Kamsky will defend his title at the 2014 U.S. Championship while recently anointed Grandmaster Irina Krush will look for her sixth title at the 2014 U.S. Women’s Championship.

Chess included in 2015 European Games programme

Parsvnath Delhi International – Round 8

Overnight sole leader Abhijeet Gupta maintained the top position with seven points in the ongoing 12th Parsvnath International Open Grandmasters Chess Tournament here at Ludlow Castle Sports Complex today.

Playing with white pieces in an English opening game, Gupta signed the peace treaty with International Master Ankit Rajpara in 24 moves to maintain his one point lead.

Golden State Open 2014

The 5th Annual Golden State Open will be held over the Martin Luther King weekend from January 17-20, 2013, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, 45 John Glenn Dr., Concord, California.

The event has 6 sections: Open, Under 2200, Under 1900, Under 1600, Under 1300 and Under 1000. The tournament format is 7-round Swiss, 40/110, SD/30, d10.

Liberty Bell Open 2014

The 46th Annual Liberty Bell Open will be held over the Martin Luther King weekend from January 17-20, 2014, at the Sonesta Hotel, 1800 Market St, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The event has 7 sections: Open, Under 2100, Under 1900, Under 1700, Under 1500, Under 1300 and Under 1000.

The Open section has either 4-day (January 17-20) or 3-day (January 18-20) schedules to play in. The Under 2100-Under 1000 sections have either 4-day (January 17-20), 3-day (January 18-20) or 2-day (January 19-20) schedules to play in.

50 years since first Reykjavik Open

On this day 50 years ago on January 14th, 1964, the inaugural Reykjavik Open started. To mark this anniversary date, a contract was signed to write a book covering the history of this prestigious tournament.

The author of the book will be GM Helgi Olafsson. Olafsson has followed or played in almost all of the Opens and has close to impeccable memory.

Anatoly Karpov opened Zhansaya Abdumalik Chess Academy

The 12th World Champion Anatoly Karpov visited Almaty in Kazakhstan to open the newly established Zhansaya Abdumalik Chess Academy.

Karpov and Abdumalik also played a four-game match after the ceremony. Karpov won both rapid games (20 minutes per player), while Abdumalik won one blitz game and the second one was drawn.

Vladimir Dvorkovich Memorial – Rapid Tournament

Vladimir Dvorkovich Memorial, Stage of Grand Prix – Cup of Russia Rapid Chess 2014, will take place on 15-16th January in Taganrog, Russia.

The tournament is organized by the Russian Chess Federation and the Rostov Oblast Chess Federation.
