Copenhagen Chess Challenge 2014

The 10th Copenhagen Chess Challenge is scheduled to take place on 14-18th May at the premises of chess club “BMS Skak” in Ballerup, near Copenhagen.

The tournament will be a 9-round Swiss event, intended to provide norm opportunities and targeted primarily towards players with ELO, young chess players, and title holders.

Prizes: (DKK) 4000/3000/2000/1000/1000 Danish Kroner (DKK)

IM Puchen Wang is champion of New Zealand

The 121st New Zealand Chess Congress was held on 2-12th January at the Alexandra Function Centre, Green Lane, in Auckland.

The Congress consisted of New Zealand Rapid Championship (2-3 Jan), New Zealand Lightning Championship (3rd Jan), 121st New Zealand Championship and Major Open (4-12 Jan).

Armenian Chess Championship 2014

The 74th Armenian Championship will be held on January 12-21, 2014 in Yerevan, Armenia. Ten grandmasters will participate in the tournament – Tigran L. Petrosian, Hrant Melkumyan, Zaven Andriasian, Arman Pashikian, Robert Hovhannisyan, Karen Grigoryan, Samvel Ter-Sahakyan, Avetik Grigoryan, Levon Babujian and Tigran Kotanjian.

Max Illingworth becomes Australian Champion

The 2014 Australian Chess Championships were held at Springvale Town Hall, Springvale, Victoria from 2nd to 11th January 2014.

The Australian Chess Championship is the most prestigious event on the Australian Chess calendar, which features many of the country’s strongest competitors, striving for the title of national champion.

The 2014 Championships was comprised of 4 different events: Australian Championship, Reserves, Challengers and Blitz Championships with over 190 entrants.

The total prize fund was over $13,000.

Magnus Carlsen played a simul at Las Vegas Convention Center

The Nordic Semiconductor hosted a simul with the World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen at CES 2014, the world’s largest tradeshow for consumer technology and America’s largest annual tradeshow of any kind.

The simul on 20 boards was held on 9th January at the Las Vegas Convention Center. Carlsen won all the games.

Bay Area International – Six players share first place

The Bay Area International Open Chess Tournament took place on 2-8th January, 2014, at the Hilton Santa Clara, 4949 Great America Pkwy, Santa Clara, California 95054.

The tournament was a 9-round Swiss open to players with FIDE ratings above 2000 and it was possible to earn FIDE title norms. 74 players competed.

Chess Olympiad 2014 volunteer registration is now open

Chess Olympiad 2014 Tromsø needs a number of volunteers to be able to produce the games. The volunteers will be a fundamental part of the organization of the games.

The registration for volunteers is now open, and we welcome all people off all ages to register.
