V Abierto Internacional de Alajuela 2014

The Municipality of Alajuela with the support of Association Robert James Fischer and FIDE endorsement is holding the 5th International Chess Tournament Alajuela 2014 from 22 to 26 January 2014 in the cantoncentral Alajuela, Costa Rica.

The 9-round Swiss event currently has 99 registered participants from 14 countries. The field also includes 7 Grandmasters and 11 International Masters.

Top prizes are USD 2300, 1300, 1000, 700, 500 etc

13th IBCA World Individual Chess Championship

IBCAThe 13th IBCA World Individual Chess Championship for Blind and Visually Impaired Chess Players will be held in Katerini, Olympus Riviera, Greece, from May 4th 2014 (arrivals) until May 15th 2014 (departures).

The tournament hall is the conference center of the 5-star hotel “Mediterranean Village” in Katerini.

Land of the Sky XXVII in Asheville, North Carolina

Land of the Sky XXVII is set to take place on 24-26th January at the Crowne Plaza Resort Asheville, One Resort Dr, in Asheville, North Carolina 28806.

The event will have four sections: Open, Asheville, Buncombe, U12. All sections will be played over five rounds of Swiss system and Open will be rated with FIDE.

The prize fund is projected at $20,000 based on 320 paid entries. $11,000 is minimum, while in the Open section 2/3 of the prizes are guaranteed.

European Senior Chess Championship 2014

The Portuguese Chess Federation (FPX) is organizing the European Senior Chess Championship 2014 from March 8 until 18 March at the Axis Porto Business & Spa Hotel in Porto.

The European Senior Rapid Chess Championship will be organized at the same venue on 19-20 March. The European Senior Blitz Chess Championship will be organized at the same venue on 21st March 2014.

Vladimir Dvorkovich Memorial, Stage of Grand Prix – Cup of Russia Rapid Chess 2014, was held on 15-16th January in Taganrog, Russia.

The tournament was organized by the Russian Chess Federation and the Rostov Oblast Chess Federation.

128 players from Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Russia competed in the 11-round Swiss event.
