Denis Khismatullin wins the Cup of the Governor of Ugra

The last stage of the 2013 Cup of Russia, the Cup of the Governor of Ugra, was held from 27th November to 6th December in Khanty-Mansiysk.

London FIDE Open 2013

London FIDE Open 2013, part of the London Chess Classic festival, is going to take place 7-15 December.

The tournament will be a 9 round Swiss tournament with the participation of many titled players, including GM Grachev, GM Sutovsky, GM Gharamian, GM Bartel, GM Delchev, GM Iordachescu, GM Hammer, GM Gupta, GM Harika, IM Sachdev, etc.

Games will be live daily on Chessdom.com with computer analysis by the engines Komodo (champion of the last TCEC Season), Stockfish (many times TCEC finalist), and Houdini (champion of the previous TCEC Season).

SpareBank 1 Nord-Norge first major sponsor for Chess Olympiad 2014

Chess Olympiad Tromsø 2014 has presented its first major sponsor – Sparebanken Nord-Norge.

Sparebanken Nord-Norge’s sponsorship of the Chess Olympiad is worth NOK 6 million (approx. 710,000 Euro).

Pavlodar Open 2013

The Pavlodar Open will take place on 10-19th December at the Estaya St. 83 in Pavlodar, Kazakhstan.

The tournament is organized by the Kazakhstan Chess Federation, Management of tourism, physical training and sports of the Pavlodar area, and Pavlodar Chess Federation.

The playing format is 10-round Swiss and the tournament will be valid for FIDE rating and norms.

Tournament director is GM Kotsur Pavel. The prize fund is 12000 $, with the first prize being 3000 $.

40th Eastern Open in Bethesda, Maryland

The 40th Annual Eastern Open is set to take place on 26-29th December at the Doubletree Hotel in Bethesda, Maryland.

The event will be played over seven rounds of Swiss system and in six sections: Open, U2200, U1900, U1700, U1500 and U1300.

The prize fund is $17,500, with Open section prizes guaranteed and remaining prizes based on 220 paid entries.

Grischuk triumphs for the third time as champion with Russia

Danyyil Dvirnyy Becomes Italian Champion

Grandmaster-elect Danyyil Dvirnyy convincingly won the 73rd Italian Chess Championship by finishing the event with 8,0/11 points, a full point ahead of the last-year champion GM Alberto David and GM Sabino Brunello.

The Championship was held from 21st November to 2nd December at the Hotel Villa Maria Regina, via della Camilluccia 687, in Rome. Earlier Rome hosted the prestigious event 66(!) years ago.

Hungarian Chess Championship 2013 LIVE!

The Hungarian Chess Championship 2013 is taking place 2-11 December in Gyula. It is a ten player round robin, rounds starting daily at 15:00 CET.

Navalmoral de la Mata Open 2013

The 19th International Open Tournament “Villa de Navalmoral” is taking place on 5-8th December at the hotel Moya in Navalmoral de la Mata (Cáceres), Spain.

The tournament will be played over 7 rounds of Swiss system. 90 players from 16 countries are participating, including 14 Grandmasters.

The total prize fund is 12,300 EUR, with 3000 EUR dedicated for the winner.
