TCEC splashes a brand new VSOB chess opening

It is not April 1st, but it is certainly a fun day over at TCEC. While waiting for Swiss 7 (advance: the strongest Swiss event the chess world has seen) that is scheduled to start next week, TCEC display a “Viewer Submitted Opening Bonus”. In that mini event all openings are submitted by users and top engines are creating pure art on the board.

Today, this was the starting position for Stockfish (3667 elo) vs Berserk (3565 elo), submitted by CrazyIgelFan. You can see the game live here and replay it later in the archives.

Topalov interview on cheating in chess, his match with Kramnik, and more (VIDEO)

Veselin Topalov was a guest at the online studio of Kod Sport in his home country, Bulgaria. In a video titled “I was among 3000 prisoners in Medelin” he talked on multiple topics, including the current state of chess, his manager Danailov, the role of computer chess, his loss from Anand in Sofia, the state of Bulgarian chess, his games in the prison in Medelin, and more.

Topalov extensively talked about cheating in chess and the connection to his match with Kramnik in Elista.

David Llada to skip Chess Olympiad 2024

David Llada, the author of the best seller “The Thinkers”, is one of those people you will always count on seeing at the Chess Olympiad. He has worked in every edition (“except Khanty-Mansiysk”) for the past 22 years. Since Istanbul 2012, he has been head photographer, Chief Marketing and Communications officer for FIDE, and head of the media team. David Llada’s iconic photos and work are an essential part of the image the world of chess has today.

Nepomniachtchi defeated Anish Giri in round 3 of the Sinquefield Cup 2024. While all focus has been on Gukesh – Ding Liren from round 1, there certainly have been more solid chess games on display. The Nepo – Giri game is a masterpiece, and Nakamura was quick to note it. Hikaru Nakamura said, “Marvelous win for Nepo… for Ian this probably goes as the top game of his career!”
