The first event of the FIDE Women’s Grand Prix 2022/2023 takes place from 17-30 September 2022 in Astana, Kazakhstan. A very strong line-up is headlined by World No.

The 2022 FISU World University Chess Championship was played from 12-17 September at the University of Antwerp Hof van Liere, Belgium. The event was played in Open and Women’s sections separately, with participation of around 70 players from 15 countries. The participants competed in classical and blitz tournament, and the best teams were announced combining results of the best federation’s players in the two events.

The opening ceremony of the 2022-2023 Kazakhstan leg of the Women’s Grand Prix was held this evening at the Astana International Financial Centre. Pending the President’s discretion, the capital Nur-Sultan will very soon be renamed back to Astana after yesterday’s Parliament session endorsed the draft law on the constitutional amendment.

The FIDE World Youth Chess Championships U14, U16, and U18 took from September 05-17, 2022 in Mamaia, Romania, with the participation of 620 players from more than 70 countries. The 11-round Swiss System tournaments were organized by International Chess Federation and Romanian Chess Federation together with Chess Club Universul and Chess Club Juniorul Constanta, are being held in Constanta Exhibition Centre.

Fabiano Caruana defeated Alireza Firouzja in a thrilling playoff to clinch Champions Showdown Chess 9LX.

Legendary grandmaster and 13th World Chess Champion Garry Kasparov did not perform well in the Champions Showdown Chess 9LX tournament. Kasparov scored 0.5 points after nine rounds and spoke about the result in the final interview: “I think there were very high expectations after my performance last year here, but last year I did some chess.

Fabiano Caruana won the Champions Showdown Chess 9LX tournament in Saint Louis. Caruana headed into the last day lagging behind Firouzja, Mamedyarov and Nepo for a pull point, and confessed in the interview that he thought there are no chances to win the event. However, Fabi managed to catch Firouzja, scheduling playoffs which determined the Winner of the event.

Fabiano Caruana was crowned the winner of the 2022 Champions Showdown: Chess 9LX after defeating Alireza Firouzja in Armageddon during their rapid playoff match. The victory capped off an incredible day for Caruana, who won his final three games in regulation to finish with 6.5/9 and catch Firouzja to force a playoff tiebreaker.
