Sami Khader is the new Chairman of the FIDE Trainer’s Commission

The FIDE President has appointed IM Sami Khader as the new Chairman of the FIDE Trainers’ Commission. Khader has been a Councilor for the Commission since 2016, and during this time he has been a valuable contributor, demonstrating valuable managing and organisation skills. His predecessor, Mikhail Kobalia, will remain involved with the Commission as Councilor, engaged with FIDE Chessable Academy and several seminars.

English chess master Leonard Barden, The Guardian’s weekly chess columnist, asks for FIDE to take action in the Niemann – Carlsen case after the controversy caused by Carlsen’s withdrawal from the Sinquefield Cup 2022. Following Carlsen’s withdrawal from the prestigious Saint Louis tournament and speculations that are spreading over the social medias, Barden writes: “It is surely time for Fide to step in.

26th HIT Chess Open LIVE

The 26th edition of the HIT Open will take place from 16-22 September 2022 in Nova Gorica, Slovenia. The tournament will be played 2 sections: A (for players rated 1500+) and B (for players rated U1600), in 9 rounds, swiss system, with time control 90 minutes for the entire game, plus a 30-second increment starting from move one. The top seeds are GM Lorenzo LodiciGM Francesco Sonis and GM Jesper Sondergaard Thybo.
