24th New York State Open

The 24th Annual New York State Open will be held from May 20-22, 2016, at the Tiki Resort, 2 Canada St., Lake George, New York.

The event has 4 sections: Open, Senior, Under 1610 and Under 1210. Each section has either a 3-day schedule (May 20-22) or 2-day schedule (May 21-22) to participate in.

The tournament format is 5-round Swiss, 40/100, SD/30, d10 (2-day option, rds 1-2 G/60, d10).

The event has a $3,000 prize fund, unconditionally guaranteed.

FIDE Arbiters’ Seminar in Monrovia, Liberia – Results

From 3 to 7 May 2016 a FIDE Arbiters’ Seminar was organized in Monrovia, Liberia, by the Liberian Chess Federation, in cooperation with the Africa Chess Confederation and under the auspices of FIDE.

The lecturer was IA Omar Salama (ISL), FIDE Lecturer.

The lectures were in English language.

Twenty seven (27) people from Liberia and Ivory Coast participated in the Seminar and eighteen (18) of them participated in the examination test, held after the end of the lectures.

Grzegorz Gajewski with winner’s trophy in Wunsiedel

Grandmaster Grzegorz Gajewski emerged winner of the 10th Wunsiedel Schach-Festival that was held from 5-8th May in Wunsiedel, Germany.

Gajewski, who was the second of Viswanathan Anand at Candidates Tournament, collected 6 points from 7 games to become clear winner of the Master section. There were 142 players in the field.

GM Nebojsa Nikcevic stormed through Cetinje Open 2016

Grandmaster Nebojsa Nikcevic convincingly won the International Open Tournament Cetinje 2016 that was held from 4-10th May in Cetinje, Montenegro.

Despite being seeded 17th in the starting list, Nikcevic finished with 8,0/9 points, leaving the chasing pack point and a half behind.

European Individual Chess Championship 2016 LIVE

The European Individual Chess Championship 2016 (aka EICC 2016) takes place 12-23 May in Gjakova, Kosovo. It is the highest event of the men’s individual European Chess Union calendar. The event features 100+ Grandmasters from 39 countries.

Games will be daily live with analysis with the European Chess Union broadcast, powered by the TCEC engines Komodo, Stockfish and Houdini.

Vladimir Putin opens Chess section at Sirius Center in Sochi

On May 10th a new Chess section has opened at the Sirius Educational Center in Sochi. The launch of the project was announced by Chairman of the Center’s Board of Trustees, the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, who wished the youngsters and teachers success in mastering the new programme, under which pupils gifted at chess from all around Russia will improve their skills.

Nakhchivan Open 2016 LIVE!

The International Chess Festival Nakhchivan Open 2016, dedicated to the memory of Heydar Aliyev, is scheduled to take place from 9-19th May at the Nakhchivan Chess Center in Nakhchivan, Azerbaijan.

The Festival is organized by the Azerbaijan Youth & Sport Ministry, Azerbaijan Chess Federation and Nakhchivan AR Chess Federation.

Last year the winner was Grandmaster Eltaj Safarli.
