The Chessable British Chess Championships 2022 will be held at the Riviera International Centre in Torquay from 8th to 21st August 2022 inclusive. This will be the 108th British Chess Championship in a series which has run almost unbroken since 1904, with Torquay having previously hosted the Championships on six occasions, most recently in 2019.

18-year-old Indian Grandmaster Arjun Erigaisi competed for the India A team at the 44th Chess Olympiad. With an impressive score of 8.5/11 points on the third board, Erigaisi was the second best individual player of Board 3 at the Olympiad (see the list of best individual players here), and a good performance was crowned with a ticket to the 2700 club.

The Closing ceremony of the Chess Olympiad 2022 took place today afternoon in Chennai with awarding ceremony for the team Winners and medalists, best individual players, and grant of the Gaprindashvili cup for the federation with the combined supremacy of a team in both open and women’s sections.

History was made in the open section of the FIDE Chess Olympiad, which came to an end this morning in Chennai, India. Uzbekistan, one of the youngest teams on the roster, defeated rating favourites the Netherlands by 2.5-1.5, securing the gold medal.

Altogether with the Winners and medalists of the Chess Olympiad 2022, the best individual players per boards received special prizes and medals at the Closing ceremony of the event. GM Gukesh D won gold medal as the best individual Board 1 player with 9/11 points and 2867 rating performance.

Altogether with the Winners and medalists of the Women’s Chess Olympiad 2022, the best individual players per boards will receive special prizes and medals. The best Board 1 player of the Women’s section according to the rating performance is legendary Swedish GM Pia Cramling with 9.5/11 points and 2532 rating performance.

After a dramatic final round of the Chess Olympiad 2022, Uzbekistan won the Open tournament having better tiebreak criteria than Armenia, while Ukraine clinched gold of the Women’s Chess Olympiad thanks to better tiebreaks than Georgia.
