Rapport on the R7 game vs Nepo: “I should probably throw away my computer”

Richard Rapport was devastated after a tough loss he suffered in the 7th round of FIDE Candidates 2022 playing against Ian Nepomniachtchi. The Petroff line chosen by Nepo was a known theoretical draw where Black sacrifices a Rook to hunt the perpetual check. However, Rapport decided to refuse the threefold repetition and go on into a clearly worse position.

Richard Rapport suffered a tough loss against Ian Nepomniachtchi in today’s 7th round of the FIDE Candidates Chess Tournament 2022. Nepo was perfectly prepared for the Petroff variation that appeared on the board, going for the perpetual check after a rook sacrifice. Rapport was brave to refuse the threefold repetition and went into a clearly worse position which eventually ended in favor of the Russian grandmaster.

R7 of the FIDE Candidates Chess 2022 opened with four ceremonial moves

Today’s 7th round of the FIDE Candidates Chess Tournament 2022 was opened with four ceremonial moves made by the organizing team of the Norway Chess elite tournament: Kjell Madland, Benedicte Westre, Jasmine Larsson, and FIDE Managing Director and ECU Vice-President Dana Reizniece Ozola.

2022 Jerry Spann Memorial – Oklahoma Open & State Championship

The 2022 Jerry Spann Memorial – Oklahoma Open&State Chess Championship will take place over the weekend June 25-26 in Broken Arrow, Tulsa, Oklahoma.

The event will be played in three sections: Open, Reserve (U1700) and Amateur (U1300), over 5 swiss rounds, with time control of 90 minutes for the whole game + 30 seconds of increment. The total prize fund of the event is 3.000$.

50th Annual World Chess Open 2022

The 50th Annual World Chess Open takes place from June 30th to July 4th at Sheraton Philadelphia Downtown. The event is played in 8 sections, with the total prize fund of more than 100.000$ and participation of around 1100 players.

PNWCC Summer of Seattle 2022

The Pacific Northwest Chess Center organizes the 2022 Summer of Seattle Chess Open from 24-28 June. The event kicked off yesterday and it’s being played in two sections (USCF 1800+ and FIDE 2200+) in 9 rounds, swiss system, with the time control: 90 minutes + 30 seconds of an increment.

After two played rounds in the 2200+ section, IM Anthony He and FM Ming Lu share the top with a perfect score of 2/2 points.

The FIDE Candidates Chess Tournament 2022 reached its halfway and Ian Nepomniachtchi and Fabiano Caruana separated themselves from the rest of the field, with the score of 4.5 and 4 points, respectively.
