More than 1500 players took part in the Olympiad Torch Run Open Rapid Chess Tournament 2022 which took place at Indira Gandhi International Stadium, New Delhi on 19th June 2022 on the occasion of the first-ever Chess Olympiad Torch Relay.

Today’s special guest of the FIDE Candidates Chess Tournament 2022 was Mr. Manuel Alvarez Escudero, a 100-year-old active chess player. He made a first ceremonial move in the game between the Candidates’ youngest participants: 19-year-old Alireza Firouzja and 24-year-old Jan-Krzysztof Duda. Just a few months ago, Mr.

Hikaru Nakamura recaps his R5 game from the FIDE Candidates Tournament against Ian Nepomniachtchi. Nakamura had a clearly better position but lost the advantage after an inaccurate 28.Na5? and the game ended in a draw. Nakamura named the R5 game: “I am disgusted”, but he also emphasized he is satisfied with the current result of 2.5 points (1 loss, 1 victory, 3 draws).

Ian Nepomniachtchi heads the 5th round of the FIDE Candidates Chess Tournament 2022 as the sole leader of the event. He yesterday defeated Alireza Firouzja to score 3 points and get the 1/2 point advantage over Fabiano Caruana who is the first follower with 2.5 points.
