NSCF/ICC present Chess Service Awards

On Thursday, May 19, the National Scholastic Chess Foundation based in New York, held its first-ever awards dinner at the Marriott Brooklyn Bridge. Presented in partnership with ICC, the 2022 Chess Service Awards honored four women who have made a lifetime contribution to growing scholastic chess. Keeping with the FIDE Year of the Woman in Chess theme was almost accidental when selecting the honorees.

England’s National Chess Library with 7000 Books settled in Leicester

England’s National Chess Library is made up of around 7,000 books from a number of collections left to the BCF, including Harry Golombek’ s personal collection, which forms the core of the library. The library was housed in Hastings, then the ECF Offices in Battle and was recently transferred to safe keeping within the Kimberlin Library at De Montfort University in Leicester in June 2021.

AkaNemsko will stream her games from Las Vegas Chess Festival 2022

The Las Vegas Chess Festival 2022 commences today and includes the National Open, the US Women’s Open, International Youth Championship and many side events. The famous chess streamer and the women’s grandmaster Qiyu Zhou (AkaNemsko) announced she has just arrived in Las Vegas to compete in the National Open. This will be Nemo’s first OTB tournament after a one-year break.

Before taking part in the FIDE Grand Prix, Nakamura played no classical OTB games for more than two years and the triumph in the FIDE Grand Prix came out of blue.

Aryan Tari defeated Magnus Carlsen in the 7th round of Norway Chess. Tari chose to play a solid line as White in the game with classical time control, then winning an Armageddon to score a victory against the reigning World Chess Champion.

Carlsen loses to Tari but maintains the sole lead in Norway Chess 2022

The 7th round of Norway Chess 2022 brought interesting matches that finished with two decisive games with classical time control and three Armageddons. Magnus Carlsen maintained the sole lead in the event despite a loss he suffered against his compatriot Aryan Tari. There are only two rounds left to be played and the players will tomorrow have another resting day.

Ukraine vs Russia in FIDE Chess Elections 2022

The FIDE Congress will be held in Chennai, India between 31 July 2022 and 09 August 2022 as part of the Chess Olympiad 2022 (see all Olympiad news here). Part of it is the FIDE General Assembly, where on the agenda are the FIDE elections.

Torch Relay for the first time ever in Chess Olympiad

The first-ever Chess Olympiad Torch Relay will be carried out at the 44th Chess Olympiad 2022 in Chennai, India as FIDE today announced a new tradition of institutionalizing the Chess Olympiad Torch Relay.
