The 2nd Hersonissos International Chess Tournament is scheduled to take place from 17-24th June at the Lyttos Beach Hotel in Hersonissos, Crete, Greece.

The event is organized by the Heraklion Chess Club, Heraklio OAA, Hersonissos Chess Academy, Candia Chess Club, and supported by the Municipality of Hersonissos and Administration of Crete.

The chess community expanded by 27 Grandmasters, after the 1st quarter Presidential Board approved their titles in Minsk. The new Grandmasters come from Armenia, Brazil, Canada, Czech Republic, Spain, France, Georgia, Germany, Hungary, India, Iran, Iceland, Peru, Russia, Slovakia, USA, and Azerbaijan.

The 18th Bangkok Chess Club Open is being held in the Regent Cha-am Beach Resort from 13-21 April 2018. In total almost 350 players take part, with around 240 playing in the main 9-round open. The time control is 90 minutes for 40 moves followed by 30 minutes for the rest of the game, with a 30-second increment from move 1.

FIDE Deputy President Mr. Georgios Makropoulos announced his candidacy for FIDE President at the forthcoming elections in Batumi, Georgia, on 3rd October, 2018.

Mr. Makropoulos made the announcement during the FIDE Presidential Board in Minsk. He advised that he had been approached by the majority of the Presidential Board and many delegates asking him to run for President to sort out the present problems and ensure stability in FIDE.

The FIDE Presidential Board was held throughout the weekend in Minsk, Belarus, and among other items on the agenda, discussed the situation regarding the FIDE bank accounts.

Everything is set for European Women’s Individual Chess Championship 2018 which takes place from 8th-20th April, in Hotel Belluve, located in the national park of Vysoke Tatry, Slovakia.

144 players from 30 different European federations registered for the event, among whom 13 Grandmasters, 29 International masters, 35 Women Grandmasters, 22 Women International masters and in total 128 titled players, which makes the event very strong.

The 2018 Uruguayan Championship is a 10-player round-robin tournament taking place from 7-15 April in Montevideo. Players receive 90 minutes for the first 40 moves followed by 30 minutes for the rest of the game, plus 30 seconds increment per move starting from move one.

The 4th Heraklion “Fischer Memorial” GM-norm tournament is held from 9-17 April 2018 in Heraklion, Crete, Greece. The tournament is part of the Heraklion IT Grand Prix, which is in its 8th year, and is intended to be the first in a series of such events. It is a 10-player invitational round-robin event.
