The second round of the 2018 U.S. Championships was as promising as the first. With plenty of exciting matches on the horizon, the chess fans gathered to see the players at work; they weren’t disappointed, as we once again got a combative round in the books.

Round 1 Recap

The 2nd World Junior Chess Championship for the Disabled will be held at the Crowne Plaza Philadelphia in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, USA from August 8-12, 2018.

The event is organized under the auspices of the World Chess Federation (FIDE), US Chess and the New Jersey Chess Federation. The main sponsors are the US Chess Trust, KIND and other individual donors and supporters.

The 2018 European Women’s Chess Championship is an 11-round Swiss tournament taking place in the Hotel Bellevue in Vysoke Tatry, Slovakia.
144 players took part in the tournament.

The 2018 Sharjah Masters took place from 12-19 April at the Sharjah Chess & Culture Club.
130 players took part in the tournament.
Iranian 17-year old GM Maghsoodloo wins Sharjah Chess by full point! He finished with 8 points out of 9. GM Eltaj Safarli and GM Hao Wang shared second place with 7 points.

The 2018 Chinese Championship is a 12-player round-robin taking place from 18-29 April in Xinghua. The time control is 90 minutes for the whole game, with a 30-second increment from move 1.

Leela Chess Zero (LC0), often called the open source Alpha Zero, is the first neural network chess engine to enter the Top Chess Engine Championship (TCEC). This will happen in Season 12, that starts this April 19th at 19:00 CET.

The 2018 Croatian Championship is a 12-player round-robin taking place in Požega, Croatia from 17-27 Aprily. The prize fund is €10,000 with €2,800 for first place. The time control is 90 minutes for 40 moves followed by 30 minutes to the end of the game, with a 30-second increment from move 1.
