The 2015 edition of the traditional chess tournament Reykjavik Open is taking place from 10-18th March at the Harpa Conference Hall.

A total of 274 players from 37 countries, including 42 Grandmasters and 30 International Masters, are taking part in the event.

GM L’ami Erwin (NED 2605) secured the overall tournament victory with a round to spare. With 8,5 points from 9 games he is 1,5 points ahead of his nearest rivals.

The 1st International Open Chess Tournament “Eftihios Krommidakis” is scheduled to take place from 13th to 19th April, 2015, in the Hotel C

The first round of the FIDE Women’s World Championship (Sochi, Krasnaya Polyana), attended by 64 players from 28 countries, was played today at the CS Galaktica.

Igor Levitin, adviser of the Russian President, made a symbolic first move of the championship in the game of the highest rated player Humpy Koneru (India).

A press-conference dedicated to cooperation of the Sistema Charity Fund and the Non-profit Partnership Chess in Schools aimed at introducing chess into the Russian school curriculum and increasing the role of chess in general education took place at the Women’s World Chess Championship press center on March 17.

The Al Ain Chess Club invites all youth players U15 with FIDE ID to participate in the 1st ALAIN Youth Chess Championships U15, that will be held for the first year in the chess city of ALAIN between 5h and 12th of April 2015.

The tournament will take place at ALAIN Rotana Hili Hotel.

The International Chess Festival “Waves of the Danube” is scheduled to take place from 30th April to 3rd May, 2015, in  Continental Hotel, Drobeta Turnu Severin, in Romania.

The 19th Annual Mid-America Open was held from March 13-15, 2015, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel St. Louis-Clayton, 7750 Carondelet Ave., St. Louis, Missouri, USA.

The 5-round Swiss event had seven sections: Open, Under 2100, Under 1900, Under 1700, Under 1500, Under 1300 and Under 1000.

Grandmasters Le Quang Liem and Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son (both from Vietnam) have qualified for the 2015 World Chess Cup in Baku after claiming the top two places in the FIDE Zone 3.3 Championship.

IM Pham Le Thao Nguyen qualified for the next Women’s World Championship after winning the women’s section of the Zonal Championship.

The FIDE Zone 3.3 Championships 2015 for men and women were held from 06-16 March 2015 in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

The press conference and opening ceremony of the 2015 FIDE Women’s World Chess Championship were held tonight in Gazprom Galaktika and Grand Hotel Polyana.

Sixty-four chess players from 28 countries are taking part in the knockout contest which lasts until 7 April. The first game of the first round is starting on Tuesday 15:00 local time.
